Powdercoating question

This winter I'm going to get my wheels redone, should I keep the old bearings in so I don't have to scrape paint to put the new bearings in or do the painters just mask the bearing area up? I tried a quick search but didn't find anything. Thanks

So I can leave them in and mask them over or I can remove them and mask the area? I'm guessing then its best to remove them first so I don't run the risk of slipping and scratching anything.

I dunno if they will coat them with the bearings still in, I would ask

why would you want to keep them in? if you do you will have to tape the flat surface then it will look funny, (unless its the same color as new coat) if you try to tape just the bearing you will get paint around the seat or race so if the bearings are ever to be removed the coat might chip when the bearing is pushed out?

typically you can save everything if you get the right removal tool so all you will have to do is reverse the process..

sheesh if they are stock bearings now would be a good time to install a sealed high performance bearing

you are aware the stock bearings are only sealed on one side right?

stockers tend to absorb moisture over time making the grease funky

I stated I'm putting new ones in, in my first post. I just wasn't sure if it would make it easier (less scraping) if I left old ones in. But you made a great point about taking them out and it chipping the edges. Never thought of that. Thanks! Out they'll come.

props, just tape the inner race surface, the same area Suzuki left bare when they did their coat

Even if you chip the edges they are places you never see as the spacers, cush drives, forks, etc cover them up.

They probably wont do it with bearings in. My guy wouldn't.

I do a little pc on the side for ppl for the fun of it and you can't leave the bearings in. The reason is the the sealed bearings are full of grease and have plastic seals. The plastic melts destroying the bearing and the grease burns, causing the flumes to ruin the pc. There are many stories of this on casewellplating.com forum, the Eastwood.com forum and the powder360.com forum. Just buy new bearings at allballsracing.con.
