GSX-R 600 Build

So I'm building a 2001 GSX-R 600 piece by piece. Should be fun . I've got a lot of the important parts already, frame, motor, harness, front and rear suspension, wheels, and swing arm. Ordered some China man fairings for a great price. Just trying to build it for street use and a light to light warrior . I'll be on here from time to time posting updates and pictures.

Painted my front wheel and threw a Dunlop tire on the rear.

any tips or howtos on how to paint the wheel? I might gonna need to paint my rear wheel. also, paint looks very close to oe, what did you use?

Hey, I first sanded the wheels as close to bare metal as I could, gave them a wash with de-greaser, and let them completley dry. Next I added a single thick coat of primer, allowed it to dry for about an hour then added 3 light coats of white paint allowing about 20 minutes between coats. I let the paint dry over night and added a thick coat of non-yellowing clear.

I used the cheap primer and paint from the auto parts, nothing fancy. The clear was Krylon fast drying.

I did a few things today.

I painted the rotors with high heat paint and a clear coat and installed them on the front wheel.


I also installed the front calipers. I believe I'll have to remove them to put the front wheel on.


Rear cush drive and sprocket is in.


I was able to buy the head light and cluster for a great price.


and lastly the chinos sent me a preview of my custom fairings.

Looks good so far. I did a half rebuild over the past few months and had a lot of fun with it. Can't wait to see the final product.

So I got a few more things done today. Extended swing arm came in, I installed that and the rear wheel and brake. Also put some red GSX-R stickers on the wheels to contrast with the fairings.
