06 gsxr 750 spark plug torque

I am changing the spark plugs in my 06 750 and I read that you want to get them hand tight, then 1/4 turn. I got one hand tight and then was doing a quarter turn, and the resistance stopped and i could tighten it with my hand again for about 2 turns then it got resistance again and was pretty snug. I tried this with the next spark plug and the same exact thing happened. Is this normal, or did I strip them?

Re: 06 gsxr 750 spark plug torque

It's been a mighty long time since I have changed spark plugs but no, that does not sound normal, at least not on any of my previous cars/bikes. Sadly, this forum does not get many views so I can move this thread to the K6/7 forum if you like?

Did you remove the original plugs and then reinstall them?

Sounds to me like you hit a little carbon build up on the threads.

New plugs? That was the crush washer you were feeling. It hit it first, then has to crush it down then will bottom out.

Im not sure what the torque is. I never torque them. I have been turning wrenches long enough to feel it.

But there is a torque in the manual. find one and use it.

Yeah, I think you're right! It happened on all the spark plugs and I even took one back out to see if I could (wouldn't have been able to if it was stripped). Then when I screwed the plug back in, it just got tight and snug instead of having the tension released then getting tension again.
