Big Improvement?

Hi All,

Just a query really...

I have currently got my 1k K5 in bits and have replaced the head bearings for an All Balls kit of taper roller bearings as the standard ones were getting a bit "notchy".

Also, at the same time I have taken the front forks and rear shock to a specialised suspension setup company who have serviced the forks and shock and changed the springs and valves all round for slightly lighter ones as I only weigh 12st including leathers and helmet etc.
The bike has covered 18k miles, my question is, will I notice a HUGE difference to the handling of the bike when I get it all back together? I hope so, but I was just curious.

Thanks,

Stan.

Re: Big Improvement?

According to racetech for track use you need approx 0.97 kg/mm front & 9.7 kg/mm rear for 600lb total weight bike+rider+gear (stock bike is about 445lbs wet) - the oem fork springs of 0.95kg/mm were almost deadon for your weight, the oem rear shock at 8.1 kg/mm was soft. I'm running 1.0 in TraxxionDynamics kitforks & 9.5 in Ohlins shock for 200lbs with gear on 400lb wetweight bike and my front may be a mite soft, rear seems good on the track. Depends on how hard you ride - typically I'd say you want softer springs on the road than the track, unless you tend to carry passengers or touring luggage.
