cbr front calipers on 04-05 gxsr rotors
Has anyone tried a set of cbr front calipers on their 04-05 front end? I'd like to know if they are a direct swap without spacers. The cbr calipers look as though they would fit directly onto the 04-05 300mm rotors without spacers. Can anyone confirm this?

you can be a guinea pig and tell us if they fit. they might fit, it's not entirely impossible since most japanese oems receive their parts from the same vendors. not sure about the benefits of the swap, people are saying that suzuki's nissin master cylinders are the weakest link in braking system.
Why would you want to do it? FOLKS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE STANDARD TOKICO CALIPERS! If anything, if you experience problems, either clean the caliper pistons, or the MC is at fault.

btw, before 2006 (for 600 and 750) or 05 (for the 1000), front calipers came without brake pad shims, and pistons were and still are aluminum, which probably causes easy brake fluid overheat. but i've heard that m/c is worse and it's quality really varies. just wondering what's the reason for that - i.e., low bore machining tolerances or else, and is it possible to tell if that'd a good m/c or not (when you bought it from the ebay) before wasting time on brake bleeding and and what not.

I agree, but I'm building a new front end on a zx7r and I already have a set of 06-07 750 forks. I'm thinking of putting on a set of 300mm rotors on a rim and using the smaller, lighter cbr calipers, which I think will go on without spacers, looking at the short bolt holes on those calipers.
If you're going to switch out calipers, I would personally get the lighter, slightly smaller Sumitomo monoblocks from any late-model R1/R6 with 4-pot radials. I had them for awhile and while they work, keep in mind that the pistons are a little smaller than those originally on the Suzuki.
iirc, the 04-05 cbr 1000rr rotors were 310mm
the 06-07 cbr 1000rr rotors are 320mm with spacers. i might be wrong. if i am, the 04/05 rotors are 300. and the 06/07 are 310. i dot remember exactly.
to use 06/07 rotors on the 04/05 bikes, you need to source the spacers. but the calipers are the same.
also, back in the day, the cbr 1000rr brakes were rated as the BEST brakes on any sportbike.

I think your first set of numbers are correct: 310mm rotors for the 04-05 and 320mm for the 06-07.
Regarding monoblocks being better than two piece calipers, someone posted a link to a technical discussion. Here it is again:
Put 2008 1k cbr on those are monoblock and the inner pistons are larger then sumitomo.

The 04 original calipers have few problems in the inner oil passages JUST open ONE and you Will see Why everybody changes the se calipers.
If you like to keep it need to open the calipers clean and enlarge the oil passages and rebuild the pistons (may be' with race titanium pistons) change the seals and Now you CAN say that the calipers are really working.
