So long story short I'm pretty fucked right now. After putting the chain on and my rivoting tool breaking after getting to the second rivot I noticed that there is a bit of play with the chain and the sprockets. When I actually looked at the chain specs it turns out it is a 530 instead of a 525.
My question is does this matter a whole lot? The chain is tensioned yet so I'm not too sure if it will even budge then. It's about less than a cm of gap as far as I can see. Should I say fuck it and try to get the shop that sold it to me to give me a 525 instead?
Also, if anyone lives in brampton ontario and has a rivot tool that wouldn't mind helping me out it would be appreciated. I'm going back to see what the shop will do for me, but I'm not holding my breath
Agree - the chain will move side to side all the time, wearing the rollers and sprockets down in no time.
I'm with on this one... The chain and sprockets should always match up. It's going to wear the sprocket down and you're also putting yourself at risk if something goes wrong. To me, the chain/sprockets are pretty much one of the most important things on a bike, so you should definatley get the right chain
Thanks for all the advice guys. Already talked to the shop and they're giving me the run around right now. I agree with all of you that these parts are crucial to the bike and after I saw a few horror stories about what happens when your chain fails I decided that those were the next parts to replace.
So I tried ordering stock everything, but for whatever reason they couldnt get it. I opted for a slight difference in the teeth, but wanted to keep the 525(afaik that's stock size). Because Canada is stupid fucking expensive I ordered the sprockets(had to wait a week) and told them I decide on a chain when I came back. When I go back I tell them to just give me a stock chain and to be done with it. Everything came out to about 240.
So a few days go by and now I am where I am. When I told them about it they were suggesting that it was my fault for ordering a stock chain with sprockets that weren't stock. Is it just me or does that souns like a fucking cop out? I mean I would expect that if you're selling me parts that are going to be combined that you would ensure that they match up, regardless of what's stock and what isn't. They are suggesting that a k6 750 gsxr has a 530 stock. I thought for sure it was a 525?
Anyways I tried to compromise with them and said since i already cut and linked the chain that it was garbage to them, but the sprockets are still new. I offered to just have them switch out my current sprockets with ones appropriate for the chain, but no luck so far. Tomorrow the guy I delt with will be in so I'm going to try again and see what happens.
What would you guys do? I know I'm Part to blame for not checking everything befpre I installed. This is the third time I've ordered parts and recieved the wrong ones an the secon time I've been refused a refund.
