New paint..now with more decal!

Well, as noted at the bottom of my initial post here:

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthr...light=theanser

I have been wanting to lay down some blue paint on my bike since I bought it in July of 2010. I missed the pop of my white and blue 06 600 and wanted some of that back.

I had a good friend in the industry lay down the color and decided to keep the silver/gray that came stock as the accent color. I think it turned out great and I'm really happy I didn't have him strip the fuel tank all the way to get rid of the decal. He did a great job masking that off and people have asked if it was a kit we bought after the paint.

He finished up the rear seat cowl today so I'll pick that up sometime this week and get some more pictures without the rear seat!

Enough back story; onto the pics!

1.) Summer 2010 - Mods - Puig Dark Smoke Screen and Driven 16t front sprocket, SpeedoDRD

2.) Summer 2011 - Mods - Same as 2010 plus - Subaru WRB paint w/ silver accent, LOR two.six.zero slip on, PC V, BMC Race Filter, relocated license plate and put the rear hugger back on.

3.) Another shot with finished paint

4.) New decals (also got the hollow 750's for the tail section)

5.) Another shot

6.) With my lid

Not quite in the stock location, but that is OK with me as there is less decal with just the GSXR and nothing else. We basically lined them up with the angle of the decal on the tank and went from there. I think they came out great and I'm extremely happy with the bike right now.

Couple more changes coming over the winter once I put her away for the season!

Comments and criticism welcome!

Thanks for looking,
Orion

I think it looked great before you started messing with it. but now it looks AWESOME!

I also think that a small decal would finish her off

Thanks much!

Ride Naked: I thought the criticism was coming early there for a second! I do agree that the stock scheme was nice (and sinister) but it wouldn't have been my first choice except for the great deal I got on the bike. As you said, I'm enjoying the new paint even more!

That stock scheme was wicked! I do feel like your blue is missing something though, the R may be what it needs. Either way it looks sweet!

Re: Something slightly different

Isnt that basically one of the OEM colors, without graphics, that you just made?

Looks good, but sadly most people see "custom paint" as "crashed" you would have been better off swapping the plastics sadly.

EDIT: the OEM colors black and blue are swapped.

Still looks good, I just hesitate to paint good OEM fairings.

Re: Something slightly different

I like it, but it needs the red R. My opinion, a Gixxer is signified with the red R. Not a fan of a ton of stickers on a bike. Nor am I a fan of not having any. One or two small decals in the right spot. Those one or two being the red R. White and Blue also signify the Gixxer. Regardless of how many other people have that scheme. I don't know why anyone would want to change that. Similiar to a Red Ducatti. +1 on not painting good oem fairings. Should have left it alone. Looked great, stock.

The blue looks good, but it looks like it's missing something like it's too plain.

Re: Something slightly different

I like it, looks really clean. I would put a hollow GSXR in a match to your gray. You should be able to get it from Tapeworks. Like mine, but in gray. You can order it so it's just the outline, so the color shows through nicely. You just have to be carefull with it when cleaning or waxing. I think it would add just a bit without being too much.

Thanks black_out, I just need to find the right graphic!

Thanks Moto! I haven't seen any stock schemes with blue and silver. Blue and black, blue and white but not blue and silver, hence the "slightly different" I went middle ground! lol

Not worried about people thinking it was wrecked. I doubt I will ever sell this bike, I will probably just start adding to the stable. A bike for whatever mood strikes me!

Not into a lot of decals, if anything I will just do an R and maybe something around it.

I haven't seen anyone else with Blue and Silver unless I missed it somewhere (which is highly likely), it's similar to the others, but slightly different. Many other people also do away with the graphic on the tank and go full color there. I agree with your red R stance, but it's doubtful I want something that bold on the color scheme now. I was thinking of possibly a black outline of the stock R with GSX underneath and letting the blue of the fairing be the filler. We'll see.

A lot of people felt that way before I painted it, but I just wasn't in love with the stock color scheme. Plus, I noticed that many other drivers seemed to have increased difficulty in "picking me up" in their sight line with a darker bike.

The rear cowl is still being worked on, we lost my father 6.5 years ago to Pancreatic Cancer and I had a decal for him on my old bike. My buddy is doing some ghosted graphics on the cowl for me. Something a bit more personal. As stated above, doubtful I will ever sell this bike, but if I do, the cowl is something I can easily hold onto.

Thanks again for the comments everyone!

Thanks oldfart! Great minds think alike!

I was typing up my multi-response when you posted and I put that idea in there somewhere...lol

I'll have to look into Tapeworks. Thanks for the tip!

When he tells them he's going to 'unleash the beast' he whips the cover off the bike

Followed by, " I hear it's fast, but I wouldn't know as I've never ridden it. " " It's gotta handy little trunk in the back for my false teeth though. "
