I made my own undertail exhaust gsxr 1000

Every time I looked at my bike I wish the big can wasn't in the way, so I decided to get an unertail. However the only ones are hotbodies and taylor made that I could find. Hotbodies are too loud and taylor made is too expensive, so I made my own. So what do you guys think?

The start

Then the shorty

Then the procedure

Re: I made my own undertail exhaust

after some google image pics for reference, that 2nd pic under "the procedure" appears to be huge design flaw, however it could be the angle of the pic. Can the tire run the risk of hitting the pipe?

Great weld work though glad to see you didn't just roll up some tinfoil and use some gorilla tape.

Looks like good welding Isn't that pipe running awfully close to electronics though? Any problems yet?

Looks cool. I wonder how it is on performance cause of the extra bends (would it affect it enough to really matter or not). Can your tire hit the exhaust?

Re: I made my own undertail exhaust

with my 200lbs on it and jumping up and down it doesn't hit the tire, but no passengers untill i redo the one bend by the peg. I used hi-temp header wrap (the treated kind) and it doesn't even melt the thin plastic left from the undertail that is like 1/4 inch away. I trimmed it that close just to see how much heat comes off of it. and I moved my pc3 and speedohealer up by the battery so it's not close to any of that. It is obviously louder then the longer pipe however much quieter then a hotbodies megaphone. so far I fucking love it, and am happy as shit everytime I look at it. I'm pulling the can apart today to drill some more holes on the inner pipe of the can cause yosh doesn't put any on the first 4" of it, so when i drill those it will make my 4" muffler into a 8" muffler.

and for the performane aspect, it's a gsxr 1000, pc3, k&n, quickshifter, lowered 2", and my custom exhaust, I know a couple bends might hurt my true performance, but the thing is fast as fuck to begin with

and here's a sound clip

The bends will probably help it a little bit .

I hate having anything like anyone else, that's why I also have a 600hp crx that is just ridiculously fast. and i just picked up a new bench drill press, so once I'm done with drilling all the holes in the inner pipe i will make sure i do so.

That does look interesting... would save a burnt leg/melted rubber for a passenger if they let their leg wander haha.

it looks freaking awesome. whats that tape ur using to divert heat on the pipe? that muffler on the tail might melt the fairing unless u insulated it already

Nice fab job! I want to weld like that. What pipe are you using and where did you get it? I'm looking for a few pieces of stainless.

I used 2" mild steel, Allied exhaust is where I got the u-bends from. Kelley wolfe in phoenix, az did all the tig welding.
