Headlight flicker

So I've searched the forum but can't find my issue. My headlights are solid and bright at idle, but when I get the bike they flicker and dim a bit. Still on, but dim sum. I have an aftermarket rear led tail light and integrated turn signal. Though I have no idea if the flicker is related to that or not, as I don’t know when the issue started. I have a year old Yuasa battery in the bike and new spark plugs if that matters. I don't own a multi multi-meter so have not been able to check voltage at the battery. Oh and the bike runs fine.

Re: Headlight flicker

try the yellow connector under the left hand air duct if your sitting on the bike the connectors can get corroded over time just spray some wd40 or lubricating spray on it. this worked on mine

Re: Headlight flicker

I would say take the tail off and check the stator and rectifier plugs. Also the yellow conector is a issue.

well I know it's not the yellow plug as I sprayed that and nothing changed... time to buy a volt meter.

Re: Headlight flicker

Then take the tail off and look at the rr plug and the stator wires.

Re: Headlight flicker

All right so this is what I’ve learned. The wires from the alternator test properly for resistance and they don’t ground out to the bike at all. I have not yet checked output from the alternator. What I have learned about the RECTIFIER is not good. I'm not much good with a multi-meter but I hope this will make some sense. With the multimeter set to continuity/diode I get the first vale. (Sperry DM-6400 multimeter) with it set to 20M for the Ω reading I get.

Negative on BR, positive on B1-3 then BW 0.549,4.33\0.555, 4.38\0.558, 4.43\0.961, 6.24
Positive on BW Neg on BR B1-3, 0.961, 6.24\ 0.521, 3.78\ 0.518, 3.72\ 0.515, 3.72\ NA
Any other combination and I get nothing.

Re: Headlight flicker

Found it thanks. still not sure if my numbers are good or bad as I dont have any reading for most of the grid. What I do know is under the no load test the bike is putting out between 65-70V on each of the black wires. So the Stator tests fine. Just need to find out if the rectifier is good. I know that all wired up the bike is about 13.5v at idle and 12.8 at 5Krpm so somthing is wrong.

Re: Headlight flicker

Your R/R is going bad. Replace it was a Mosfet unit and your troubles should go away.

He is good at getting you parts and a very nice person to deal with. Pick the kit that you need.

Already on the way, bought it last night. Bought the one with the wire kit. now time to buy a soldering iron and solder for the wireing kit.

Re: Headlight flicker

Very cool. It is a easy install. Shouldnt take long to get it done.
I was only able to use one mounting bolt on the stock sub frame, but a little blue loctite keeps it in place well.

Re: Headlight flicker

Im curious what is the problem with the newer 750's R/R. My buddy just got a letter for his 2008 Gsxr 750 about a recall, took it in and they changed the R/R out. Do they run Mosfet style or no?
