Exclamation problem with 97 gsxr 600

Hey guys,
I need help with a starting problem on my 97 gsxr 600. In the morning after it has sat all night, i go to start the bike and it will crank two or three times, then it will slap stop. If i hold the start button for about 5-10 more seconds it will wirr back up and start to crank again and will either do the same thing (this is when i stop and give it about five or so minutes then try again) or it will crank over and start. It only happens on the first start of the day, after it has warmed up once, it will start no problem. I have replaced the starter three days ago because it overcranked and I'm worried it will happen again. Does anyone have any ideas as to why it would do this? I'm beating my head into the wall trying to figure this out . help is much appreciated.

Thanks guys,
jrpsnow

Re: problem with 97 gsxr 600

First, STOP TRYING TO CRANK IT WHEN IT DOES NOT WANT TO CRANK!
Chances are if it is only over night that you have this problem, you have a carb/petcock that is not sealing shut and allowing fuel to pass into the motor. When you try to crank it, your forcing the fuel to compress and pass the rings. Then it will fire and run.

If this is the case and you keep trying, you will find yourself with a bent rod at some point.

Best to let it sit over night, then pull the air box and look in the carbs. see if you have extra fuel in the intake.

if it is full of fuel in the carb, does that mean the starter plunger is stuck open and might need to be cleaned?

Starter plunger?

It would tell me that you have a problem with two areas.
1) The Petcock vacuum seal
2) the float needles or seats not sealing shut.
