98 srad fuel pump stops whenever it wants?

buy the book right? yes i will but i doubt it will help, i do own a volt meter and can check a wire...anyone have some experience with this bullshit because im about ready to bring out the sledge hammer @#$%! relay is good putting 9ish volts to the wire does its click thing. one of the 4 prongs on the wire connected to the pump will run the pump motor. clutch switch dont know if there is one but i have driven the bike for hours on this same set-up so wtf?....it cant be one of these obvious things because id be driving down the road then blaaaah. my digital display says f1 with a flashing red light...please help me or a once good motorcycle is gonna get ax murdered! please forgive me for be so rammy but ive put so much into this &^%$ing bike i am coming unglued here!!!!

As for the problem, I would worry if only getting 9v. The bike is a 12v system and should have such voltage at the pump.

The pumps are known to fail at random times. But I have yet to hear of it failing when running. Most of the time it failed when you go to turn the bike back on.

If you have fI showing on the dash, you should make sure to install a dealer mode switch where you can access it without removing the key or turning off the bike. When you get the fI message, flip the switch and note the cXX (XX being numbers) code that you see. This will tell you where the problem is.
The ECU does NOT store codes, so you need to get it when it happens.

since you are angry at the bike, try using a paperclip to put it in dealer mode. You can still ride around with the paper clip in there and your tach will just read as GSXR Freak mentioned -C00 until a code is tripped, then the code will show. You can then stop and address the problem or find a code list and see what the problem is. Just don't turn the bike off as previously mentioned.

yes i am a squid lol sorry guys just a bit testy. thanks for the book link, it and my test tells me the crank sensor is bad. but even with the crank sensor unplugged there is still 9-9.5volts going to the fuel pump...wow electrical is gay. gonna keep reading and testing chime in if ya got something please.

If it's not charging look at the stator and rectifier wires on the left of the bike under the tail. They burn up baby! !

If they are fried replace them and move the rectifier to somewhere where it can dissipate heat more effectively. My wires fried one day and I put the rectifier on the outside of the undertail and it's never been a problem since

If you have ever used a car battery booster on 'start' mode to fire the bike up that can fry the wires as well... lets just leave it at that.

It's possible that your fuel pump is dead. Mine died on me a year ago for no reason. It had a good life though...

i ordered a stator and regulator already after finding the hot start issue on here..waiting still. but the manual is telling me my crank sensor is bad getting 15 ohms resistance.should be 50 to 200...but now i cant find one to buy...lol piss me off much? i got an angle on a used one from ebay waiting to see if he can give me a test from it. are they discontinued?

If the crank sensor was bad, the bike would not run at all. It would crank over but never fire.

It has nothing to do with the fuel pump. Move on to something else for now.

9v is a issue.
