New Potential owner

Hi guys, I'm new to Suzuki and will potentially be picking up my 06 Gsxr1000 in a couple of days.

To be honest I've never been a fan of GSXRs due to the number of squids and arrogant posers it attracts. I had a CBR600RR before it got written off. Anyway, the GSXR is a bargain I found so might as well see what the fuss is all about.

Just want to know if there are any common problems/issues with this model that I should look out for?

Cheers
Tony

I don't think so. A small number have clutch smoothness issues for which there is a fix on here somewhere. Not really heard of any common problems. The finish quality isn't as good as Honda's I've had but unless you're using it as an everyday commute bike in the wet it should be fine.

Yeh I'll use it to commute everyday. So whats with the clutch? unsmooth in the shifting?

if that's your only reason for never being a fan of them, perhaps you should stick to Honda or perhaps Kawi. I hear the R6 forums is full of doucheyness

I wouldn't worry about the clutch unless you have problems. I never had any on mine. Smooth as butter.

clutch squeels
frame recall

Unless yours has the problem you won't need to.

If you do, forget the drill mod - just change out the wave washer. It works.

Piece of piss to do.

Even I did it without a problem.

Customer of ours has a 05 with twin Devils and it sounds awesome.
And we don't need anything sounding or riding like a truck...
Because as we all know, cars and trucks lean the wrong way in a turn.

Frame recall is the biggest issue, and an appetite for rear tires
.

1. True
2. No issue for people who know how to ride.
3. Been through about 15 already.

Re: New Potential owner

My clutch has been fine without the mod. Now that you have the bike, switch to a 190/55 rear tire when you kill the existing one, and drop a tooth on the front sprocket. From there you can decide if you want a larger rear sprocket for even lower gearing.

Other than that, ride it like you stole it and enjoy.
