Coolant Flush

Im flushing my coolant system so I can put in engine ice.
Any tips or how to's to try to get all the antifreeze out of the engine?
Also what can happen if the engine ice mixes with some antifreeze?

Re: Coolant Flush

Nothing, they will mix fine.

I open the bottom hose connection and let it all drain (with the cap still on), one most of it is gone then I loosen and remove the cap, that little tiny bit of vaccum keeps the water from pouring out. Also unbolt the plastic reservoir and spill anything out of there. Clamp the hose back in and then I fill the system back up with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar. Top it off and get most of the air out. Start up the bike and let it run up to the fan coming on. Then turn off the bike and let it sit for 1-2 hours.

The vinegar will help disolve and loosen any mineral deposits in the cooling system and help flush them out. After 1-2 hours have passed, drain the system again like before. Then refill it with distilled water, start it let it come up to temp a little and turn it off and drain. Keep doing it another 1 or 2 more times until whats draining out is nice and clean and clear. At that point you've drained out the majority of the old junk in there. Finally refill and bleed the system.

BTW, why are you putting engine ice in your bike?

Re: Coolant Flush

I put this in......no freeze protection but its racetrack friendly, not slippery like coolant or Engine Ice.

Re: Coolant Flush

Thanks for the help SPL170db. Im putting engine ice in my bike because some of the people I ride with have it in and their engines never get hotter than 190 while sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in downtown chicago when its 85-90 degrees out, while my bike with regular antifreeze in it is pushing 218 with the fan running.
