Is parking in the white stripes legal?

I always thought that motorcycles are allowed to park in the white stripped area of a parking lot. But, someone told me it was illegal and I shouldn't do that. Can someone confirm this?

Are you talking about these white strips?

Because if you are then my previous statement is correct.

I park on sidewalks, in bike racks, in front of the doors at walmart...Noone cares. Its better than taking up a car space.

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

I'm talking about the white stripes at the end of a parking lot row that just fills up a little bit of space. The stripes are very close to each other.

And the same goes for me too. I think that if I parked in a whole car parking spot, that it just irritates people that think I can just park in the white stripes and give them the car spot.

If he meant that then yes it is illegal, Those are for emergency personnel. Unless marked loading zone or something along those lines for the parking lot the company owns, its for any emergency staff. SO in the long run, yes.. it is.

No. It depends on state/local laws. Here in Texas it's not illegal, although if those hash marks are next to a handicap parking spot then it IS illegal. Check your local laws Mr. Kansas.

Yeah, thats right. The laws I spoke for were for PA. Sorry, forget all about that you lived in a different state.

Lol, I crack up every time I drive past or drive into a shopping center and see bikes parks right next to the door. Shit, if people didn't bitch so much about us doing it, I'd do it all the time.

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

A lot of places around here actually have designated motorcycle spots close to the front. So that usually works out for me.

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

Well I can't find anything that says its illegal. I've been doing it for a while now and I see other bikes do it so I say its legal in Kansas.

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

I park wherever I want to excluding handicapped spots... usually on the sidewalk area entrance, even if it's at the mall or Best Buy... I am always in a spot I can keep my eye on a bike or only leave it out of sight for a little bit before I can see it again, and I'm from Kansas too and have never gotten a ticket except on the College Campus which... is no surprise, they make their own rules.

Aren't parking lots private property? Therefore the owners are to decide what is acceptable or not.

cheers

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

Parking lots are usually owned by the store or property management company. This makes them private property. That means you can do any damn thing you want. The only ways to get in trouble are to park in handicap spots, do something that puts the public at risk, or the property owner/lessee complains to the police.

i park where ever is easiest and not going to get the bike knocked over, besides handicap spaces obviously.

Re: Is parking in the white stripes legal?

^^ unfortunately, the jealous and self righteous fucks out there will see your bike parked somewhere they think it shouldn't be and push it over to "teach you a lesson".
