Am I starving him/me?

I"m doing a calorie count courtesy of fitday.com... I put in the foods I eat, and the excercises I do, and i'm trying to figure it out. How many calories should I be eating a day? So far i've only had about 800, through lunch. Is that enough? Or too much? My boyfriend once I put all his info in has about 1800 per day. That seems okay for a kid his size? Im not sure if anyone can, but an average of your caloric intake per day, while i'm at it, how much carbs/protein do you guys/gals get per day? What's an okay number??? I think i'm getting too much carbs with fruit... wtf?

Re: Am I starving him/me?

That is all to damn confusing. Girl stick with reality not the quick fix! Do you plan on counting calories the rest of your life, I highly doubt it! Just watch what you put in your mouth and make healthy decisions while choosing what you bring in your house! Otherwise you will eventually go right back to your old habits. The weight may come off slower but in the end thats the best way

I lost every last bit of weight I wanted to lose and I NEVER counted carbs, calories, fat, etc.... I watched what and when I was eating and let nature take its course. I will not live my life not enjoying meals with friends, drinks with the husband etc.. so I changed my lifestyle CHOICES rather than my WHOLE life

Hope that helps you on your journey

well it is a proven fact that you need to cut calories in order to lose weight. And im more than positive you too wifey also cut calories by *watching what you eat*. Your body has a required *maintenance level* of calories you need on a daily just to sustain your bodily functions and daily activites. if you dont cut calories you wont lose weight. plain and simple. you can drop caloric intake substantially to lose weight. once you up cals, you wont necisarily put weight back on, or lose any more eitgher.. its just the cutting is forcing your body to burn fat you have stored for fuel. so she is on the right track.

and 800 up to lunch sounds about right. you should be ending up about 1500 by the end of the day.. thats a guess from what previous info i remember about you

as far as the BF. you said he was a big guy, he may need something in the range of 2k cals depending on his maintenenance level.

Re: Am I starving him/me?

Well of course I was cutting calories, but I didnt need to sit and count them to realize that. There is the right way to eat and the way I was eating I think its pretty much common sense, it was for me and I lost ALOT of weight so I think I can say it based on experience. I just dont want to see her consume her life with that shit because eventually she will grow tired and frustrated with it.

I'm with ya wifey... I don't count calories ANYMORE.... but for getting on track with a healthy lifestyle, personally I think it's a good learning tool. I spent the first month or two of dieting counting calories / fat and learned what was good and what wasn't. It made it more clear to me what I could have more of, and less of... Now that I've gone through that I'm more educated on what foods are good for me and what aren't. So for a beginner, I'm going to have to disagree with you. I think it's an important learning experience in becoming healthy. $0.02

Re: Am I starving him/me?

... we musta all been posting at the same time.

it's all good. i know where your coming from. if you live a healthy lifestyle, you don't have to worry about counting calories. but for fat loss, counting calories helps. that's all i'm sayin.

Re: Am I starving him/me?

Im not sure how much either of you way, but 800calories sounds kinda low to me..

How many meals so far? Do u try to eat 5-6 times a day or is that just breakfast and lunch?

For me im a little over 200lbs and according to one site my maitance(spelling??) is 3000calories a day.

I also dont count calories, but when I was bulking I would eat drink alot without counting calories.. So if I want to lose I should be aiming for 2500calories a day..

You dont neccesairly have to take in less calories.. It helps a lot, but as long as your burning more calories then you take in you will lose weight..

Like if I take in 3000 calories a day to stay at the same weight, then take in 3000calories a day and burn an extra 500calories/day with cardio, I should lose around 1lb a week..

Re: Am I starving him/me?

Olly: I am eating 5-6 times a day. Small meals, lots of fresh fruit and veggies, protein etc.

Wifey: I agree with you. I don't want to drive myself up a wall with counting calories, protein/etc. I've been on this thing for about 6 weeks now, and i'm learing what to put in my mouth and what not to. (Dirty minds out of the gutter... ) I've stopped eating gobs and gobs of candy, and soda, and even snacking on pretzels... all the time. I don't starve myself, I just eat what i'm supposed to. I have the occasional "free" day or meal where I can splurge to keep myself sane, but for the most part, I don't even want to do that

Spidey: I agree with you too. As a beginner I do need to keep an eye on the calories/etc of what i'm eating. That's why I became a member of that site where I can keep track of it all. Not to nit pick over every calorie or carb or protein, but more to just keep a record of what i've been eating.

Thanks for the info guys. I love posting in here... so much awesome feedback!

Oh yeah, and i'm down 8 lbs so far in about 3 weeks of hardcore serious watching. So I must be doing something right! The jeans I have on today, I used to plump out of... and now they're lose! Everyone compliments me on my face too, they say my face looks thinner. I know for a fact that my tummy is trimmer. I find myself rubbing my belly thinking "damn, 12 more to go!!!"

Gixie, stay away from eating alot of fruits. They contain a simple sugar which is easily converted to fat.Replace them with fiberous carbs and your stomach will feel full longer.Trust me..........

Just to elibrate on what oldgixxer said, yes fruit contain sugar but it is in the form of fructose which the body processes slightly different them sucrose (simple sugar). It is not as readily turned into fat,. Friut is extremily good for you if eatin in moderation , especially fruit high in fiber (i.e. apples) There are a lot of essential nutrients in fruit that your body can not produce naturally. These nutients are very important for a good balanced diet. Just remember to much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

Re: Am I starving him/me?

Yeh what everyone else says dont be a slave to calorie counting and scales - just work on a healthy diet.

If you feel hungry eat - just eat the right things. If you are always hungry it will be tortourus to lose weight, and you will probably end up putting it back on eventually anyway.

Thats the key to a successfull diet is not to be always battling hunger.

Also pretty irrelevant but i think the recomended calorie intake for a female of ideal / /healthy weight is 2000 per day and 2500 for a male. That all goes out the window when you specialise in a sport or do a great deal of excersise mind.
