Adjusted TPS and now speedo is acting up

I just recently adjusted my TPS and now my speedo is acting odd. I have noticed the throttle feels a little better though. The problem is anything over 100mph, the speedo will bounce between random numbers. It only does it over 100mph, not to concerned about it but don't want it to turn into a bigger problem down the road. I don't normally goes that fast either, it's usually a rare occurrence. Haven't looked at the bike just yet due to the temperature being very hot and humid.

Before anyone yells about the speed, it was an empty road and I was wearing gear, like I always do.

Any ideas or thoughts would be helpful. The only thing that is different on the bike is a dealer mode switch.

Re: Adjusted TPS and now speedo is acting up

That does sound odd. I had a similar issue on my RC-51. The speedo jumped all over the place and didn't read anywhere close to accurate.

It turns out it was a wheel speed sensor. I have -1/+2 gearing on my RC-51 so the speedo still isn't accurate but at least it doesn't jump around like it did. I need a speedohealer bad.

I don't know if that has anything to do with your problem though. Just an idea though and maybe something to look into.

I was thinking about pulling the front sprocket cover off to check the speed sensor and make sure everything is secured.

The speedoDRD works great and is extremely easy to set up.

speedoDRD? How much do those run for? I have a speedohealer V4 on my 04 R1 with a +3 rear sprocket and it is incredibly accurate. I have looked at other cheaper alternatives but just don't know how easy the setup is.

I think some kind of speedo corrector is a must have on any bike with sprockets or not because I want to know how fast I am really going at all times, plus the last thing I want is my mileage to read high. I just need to get something for my K6 and RC.

Unless your speed rotor is loose it's normal. Mine has done it for years.

The speedoDRD cost $70 from Motomummy. You have to calculate the ratio in order for it to work properly, I used a GPS when setting mine up.

NOS, the odd part is that it will show 17 then 84 then 2 and so forth. It only started doing it after adjusting the TPS. Anything under 100 is not affected thankfully.

Re: Adjusted TPS and now speedo is acting up

Pull the cover and check things out there but I'm suspicious of an intermitent electrical connection. Since you were fiddling around under the tank, the first place to look is the three wire connector beneath the left rear side of the tank. Sometimes the contacts aren't properly seated in the connector body. Look for pinched wires too. The next would be the big connector under the left air duct. Then the connector into the combination meter. It sounds like the wind is pulling on something when you're at speed.

The problem with the various healers is that they make the speedo accurate at the expense of the odometer. This is easier said than done but I continue to wonder if it's possible to hack into the chips in the combination meter to make things right there. As I recall, there are two unconnected leads that I've always wondered if they are associated with flashing those chips.

Re: Adjusted TPS and now speedo is acting up

I will be doing that in the heat tomorrow, but I was planning on pulling off the rear wheel to get a new tire put on. I was thinking it was something electrical as well, just haven't had time to fiddle around, and now that I think of it, time to grab the multimeter.

Thanks for the input.

I'm 99.99999999999% sure I found the problem. As I was pulling the rear wheel off I was doing my usual check of the bike and noticed the speed sensor screw was missing.
