2004 R1 vs 2003 GSXR 1000 - The R1 is a fast bike.....

Well, I dont have really big impressions but we ran them head to head in a straight line a few times.

2003 GSXR 1000 - 2900 Miles, Full Yoshimura Exhaust, -1 Tooth front sprocket.

2004 R1 - 200 Miles, Stock.

Weight difference is about 40-45 lbs with the advantage goign to the R1 rider.

Did a few runs starting in first around 4-5k, I would pull the R1 right away, but after the R1 gets into its huge RPM range up top it just starts to pull on me, never pulls too hard but is starting to pass me by 3rd or 4th gear. The R1 would do this every time.

We switched bikes and of course my GSXR 1000 would just stomp the R1 due to the weight being switched around. So I think riders of equal weight and the GSXR 1000 would prevail, but I do have the full systgem and -1 tooth in the front.

The R1 is fast, it feels slow down low but once you get around 8k it just opens up and keeps pulling hard all the way to 13+k...

Its a very kick ass bike.

the weight thing is a pretty good difference, but more importantly the fact that your gearing is much shorter makes a huge advantage for your gixxer. its nice to see a real world comparo, but it would be better with two stock bikes.

The advantage should hold with the R-1 as it loosens up a bit during break in. Definitely a wicked bike. I almost pulled the trigger on one but decided to wait to see what the 05 1k had to offer.

It sounds really good, pretty sweet sound for a stock bike. I didnt notice any heat problems yet, but it was only 60ish here when I was riding it.

Hi - Just wondering, you say that the gixxer had 1 down in the front (equal to abot 3 on the back I think) - So what gearing does the R1 have in Comparison ? Which bike is more comfortable for you two guys riding bikes back to back. The R1 looks quite wide compared to the G1, that's all. Thanks for the real world opinion's - a breathe of fresh air around here. Thanks Si.

I store a buddies F4I in my garage and its red, so the red stand goes with the F4I. The R1's swingarm only allows for a race stand with spools, so the GSXR had to use the stand with the rubber pads.

Got any more #'s from that night?
Spitting out one number without a comparison doesn't mean that much.

Isn't a dyno a TUNING tool.

When I saw the redline and claimed HP numbers for the R1 several months back, I knew it was going to have a very strong top end at the expense of midrange grunt. Fortunately, I'm not a slave to out-and-out dyno numbers. I just finished a 900-mile one-day ride on Saturday and I LOVE the Gixxer's midrange. 80-100mph times in top gear are quite impressive--even when it came time to zip around slower traffic, I never had to downshift. So, yeah, the R1 owners might be able to brag on their higher peak HP numbers, but I wouldn't give up the real-world power delivery of the Gixxer's mill in a million years.

Re: 2004 R1 vs 2003 GSXR 1000 - The R1 is a fast bike.....

I think cycle world is due to have the comparisons out this next month on the two bikes. I have the current months on the cbr rr vs the Gixxer King. The CBR didn't whoop up on the GSXR much at all on the track corse. I think it only beat it by half a second. Which easily could signify driver error. Bottom line, it weighs about 30 lbs more, has 5 more ponies but has a weaker midrange than the King.
Can't wait for the R1 vs GSXR showoff!

Who's takin bets?
