how do i know if my bike is stolen?

first of all...i just wanna say that i'm trying to the things right

i bought my bike, a gsxr 600 k7 about 4 months ago, i find it on craiglist in SD,CA downtown
i paid $3300 for it, the guy that sold me the bike dropped at low speed, the stator cap was broke, left side fairings, the handlebar, and a few more scratches.
i spend about 200 bucks in parts and replaced them my self
the bike runs great...

i live in mexicali, BC, mexico, which is a border to CA. the bike has plates from the state of CA, and here in mexico, it's illegal to ride a vehicle with out mexican plates, for this you need to import the vehicle and this cost around $1000.

yesterday i was pull over by a federal police officer, the charge, ride an unimported vehicle. after reviwing the bike, the cop told me that the bike was stolen. finally i walk away with the bike with some cash thanks to the corruption in our police force.

now i'm not sure if the bike is stolen, very probably the cop just told me that to get me scared and to get more money from me.

when i bought the bike, before bringing to mexico, it was verified by the CBP US officers that the bike was not stolen, and then it was verified by the mexican customs and they confirmed the same.

sorry for all the story, i just want to be sure the bike is not stolen

i have the clean title, the insurance sheet, the registration and the DMV sale document

in advance thank you for your help

here some pics of the bike, let me know if think that it could be your bike. i know there are a lot of similar bikes. something particular of this one, it has a white round sticker on the right rear. it has about 5000 miles. see the pics

i can share the VIN if is need it....

If you have the title and insurance, I think you answered your own question. I would have told that cop to get fucked.

Just make sure the vin and engine numbers match from the title with the bike.

You wouldn't tell the cop to get fucked if you were in Mexico & the cop might ass rape you, shoot you, & leave you in the bushes.

You paid $3300 and they would have had to pay $1000 to import it to Mexico? Yeah, it's stolen.

Re: how do i know if my bike is stolen?

So, you bought it off of craigslist and fixed it up then moved to Mexico?

Or were you just riding down in Mexico without the transfer paperwork?

But either way, since you stated you got everything cleared by the US on the vin and title stuff, you were just screwed by the Mexican officers.

Re: how do i know if my bike is stolen?

....It's illegal to drive a vehicle in mexico that doesnt have mexican plates?? Then why do we let them drive mexican registered vehicles here!? I see them all the time being in south Texas..

If customs in 2 countries verified its not stolen, then its not stolen..

If you have a title with matching numbers on the frame and motor, then it's not stolen..

if you insured it and have DMV records of sale, then it's not stolen..

I'd tell the cop to eat shit

Re: how do i know if my bike is stolen?

the VIN should be on the left side on the frame right under the plastics (under the handlebars area) . I can see mine without taking the plastics off.

Because those drivers are seen as potential votes for liberal, democrat party, idiots that allow things like this too happen.

I'm willing to bet the cop who pulled this guy over and took his 'donation' will be doing this on a regular basis now.

OMG reading comprehension fail.

It's illegal for a mexican resident to drive with US plates. Same as when you move to another state you only have so many days to xfer your reg and get a new DL.

The dude bought it in cali cause that's where he found it for sale. He has to pay import duties to bring it into mexico. Same thing would happen if someone in the states bought a bike in canada.

There was no reading comprehension fail. I was being a smartass, because we were just cracking jokes about this kind of thing at work...
..so to you, sir.

but to the OP, I do believe that is in fact my bike. Can I have it back now?
