rear rim swap

So I need to replace my rear rim while rebuilding this bike I realized that its busted... so my question is which rim is the best to swap for? I mean if I'm going to have to spend money I might as well upgrade while I'm at it

Re: rear rim swap

Hayabusa 99-07 rear
gsxr 750 00-03 rear
gsxr 1000 00-01
all of the above will fit and are lighter than your SRAD rear wheel. You can fit a TL1000s or R rear from all years as well but I am unsure if those are lighter also I just know they fit. None of the above require any mods to fit they bolt up, axles and all direct fit. Hope it helps. I have hayabusa 05 wheels on my SRAD front and rear.

Re: rear rim swap

TLR/S, Hayabusa 1st gen wheels are the same wheels as your SRAD. Execpt for SRAD 600 rear which are 5.5' compared to 6.0'. K series are lighter, K5 1000 on even less.

Re: rear rim swap

So the SRAD 600 has a 5.5 wheel. Will the Busa and TLR/S front wheel bolt on also.

Yep, they're the same rim, bolt straight in.

Hey Andrew. I did weigh the 3 different rears a while back. I think the difference was 350 gms. I'm still not home, so I can't give an accurate weight.

Re: rear rim swap

can you run a 180 tire on a 6.0 rim? when i got my bike it had a 200 on rear, i took it off right away and have been running 190's ever since. id like to try a 180 but was told it would not be the correct tire for my rim. what do you guys think? i was also told that my 97 750 came stock with a 5.5 rear rim but had a 6.0 when i bought it. which is stock, 5.5 or 6.0?

Re: rear rim swap

The early model 750's did come stock with 5.5

Since you have the 6.0 on there now, keep using the 190.

6.0's designed for use with the 190

5.5's designed for use with the 180

Re: rear rim swap

thanks, are there any advantages of 180 over a 190,(besides that they are just a few dollars cheaper.) all my friends who ride on the track run 180's but i dont plan on getting out there anytime soon. i only ask because i have been on the look out for later model 5.5 to upgrade to because they are so much lighter than the old rim i have now. but if there are no advantages of a 180 over a 190, and i dont race than why waste the money on a new rim.

Re: rear rim swap

the smaller tire you have the better you can handle turns. My 500 had like a 140 i think and I could out handle and R bike out there it was just raw horsepower they beat me on... wider tires don't turn as well thats why if you've ever tried turning a busa it doesn't take turns real well and its cause of the wider tire

Re: rear rim swap

You can run a 180 on the 6 inch rim. Or alternately, 190/55 as opposed to 190/50 which the SRAD runs.

Re: rear rim swap

I have always had a 180 section rear due to having a '96 750.
Apparently the 180 turns in quicker than the 190 due to the profile of the tyre.
Cheers, Ad
