Red face New Member/Rider from MA!

Hey all, im sure ill get a few negative feedbacks for this post, but im a new member to owning a Gixxer and to the website. I went and looked at a 98 GSXR-750 today and found it for $2700. Few things were shaky about the bike. alot of bolts were loose, but i fell in love with it when i saw it. Kid put new pirelli tires on it along with brakes(it has Tokico brakes, i dunno if the gixxer came stock with them?) and a yoshi pipe, with a few carbon fiber accents, also has an undertail kit.

Bike seems to run and ride great, all around i think with a little elbow grease she could be really nice. But i am in a little bit of a bind with some things and i was hoping maybe some of you could help

1. Kid said he left the bike in the rain (im assuming no cover :/) as a result he said the speedo and tach/odometer arent functioning. although they do light up, as well as the digital odo. bike reads just under 12k. (ohh and not to mention the whole ride home, the mileage didnt change....did i get scammed?)

2. One of the intake tubes broke when the kid had it, so ive only got 1 at the moment, as a result my whole front fairing shakes when the bike goes over bumps. Are these easy to find/replace?

3. The brake lights arent working when applied, i figured this was just a wiring problem. but the bike does have the rear lights and they do work, same with the blinkers.

4. Last but not least, i want to ride ASAP! would like to get used to the bike and make sure shes running good, what things should i do for regular maintenance before i get it inspected? Also, should frame sliders be a first KEY investment as i am a new rider?

ANY help would be appriciated, thanks for reading! and i hope i can find a nice home at the forum!

Sorry, just kidding. Congrats on the new bike and gear, gear is your first investment, new rider or not. Don't skimp on the gear either as it will save you when you go down. Others can weigh in on the other stuff.

I'd find a new (used) instrument cluster/gauges, they're all around probably on here, EBay for sure

Yes easy to replace as long as you've got at least a little basic mechanical knowledge.... again you can find them used, new they may be a little pricey but could be worth checking out

3. The brake lights arent working when applied, i figured this was just a wiring problem. but the bike does have the rear lights and they do work, same with the blinkers.

Probably wiring like you said.... start chasing wires. You can look around here to find a service manual to download, it's a great thing to have an will have the wiring diagrams

4. Last but not least, i want to ride ASAP! would like to get used to the bike and make sure shes running good, what things should i do for regular maintenance before i get it inspected? Also, should frame sliders be a first KEY investment as i am a new rider?

Frame sliders YES, by the way you describe that bike I'd probably:
TIGHTEN UP all those loose bolts you said there were!
inspect/replace the brake pads and fluid, and check out the calipers and rotors
inspect/clean/lube the chain, check out the sprockets for worn/broken teeth
Oil/spark plug/air filter/coolant change wouldn't hurt
new battery maybe
new fork fluid

Basically just go over the bike top to bottom and look at the thing CLOSELY.... honestly these bikes aren't that complicated lift the tank up, make sure nothing's falling off etc... If you get a manual there's a service schedule in there that's pretty clear-cut and easy to follow

This is a great forum man, if your skin is at least a little thick I think you'll like it here
