Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
put your bike on a rear stand. check to see if the chain is still in good condition by spinning the rear wheel. if there are tight spots and loose spots in your chain, you might need a new one.
Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
ok..well its supposed to be loose to where you can feel it jerking around and if it is that loose you def need to adj and if u dont have a rear stand you might want to investg in one.... but its simple loosen the axle nut loosen both ten mill nuts on iether side of swing arm with a twelve mill turn the adjusting nuts to tighten or loosen which ever u prefer to do and re tighten the lockin nuts ten mill.... once u tighten the chain u should have 1.5 to 2in of play (slack up-down) on the chain too tight will damage chain and cause pre mature wear....make sure u adj chain evenly so that u dont leave rear wheel crooked...
if u think ur not able to do this task have a pro do it....

Ok after loosening your axle nut you want to loosen your chain tensioner lock nut its a 12mm then slowly tighten the smaller one which is a 10mm . do that to both sides and match it up to the notches they have to make sure your wheel is straight then tighten up the 12mm lock nut on both sides and your axle nut back up. Also you want your chain to have some play inch in a half to two inches.
Make sure there are no loose and tight spots and always clean and lube your chain with o-ring safe lube.

+1. Read your manual instead of relying on others to take the time to explain things to you.
Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
This really doesnt sound like a loose chain issue to me. It sounds like the notorious "herky jerky" issue to me.
To the OP:
Does it do this everytime?
Does it do it in lower gears and then fade away or become less noticable in the higher gears and higher RPMs?
How loose is your chain?
Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
It seems to do it whenever I shift without very lightly easing the clutch off..
It does it in all gears when the speed of the engine is not exact with the wheel
The chain is not super tight, I think its a little loose .. I even had a biker comment I need to loosen my chain like yours.. It has a slight droop in the middle. I think ill tighten it like two notches and see if it fixes the problem..

Do a search on "herky jerky" and see if you recognize the symptoms.
Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
Is it definitely coming from the chain? could be head bearings or something if it is just a crude jerk when the power is delivered. I could be wrong but its worth a look.
Re: Chain jerks when accel or deccel. How do I tighten it?
Its sounds kind of like the herky jerky issue, in corners when i let off the throttle completely it jerks a little... but its not anything with the engine. The engine never runs bad or anything like some of the people in the herky jerky thread are saying.
So I don't think its the TPS, I think its the chain , I can feel it. Its the chain grabbing , seems like the slack is whats doing it.
i think ill tighten the chain a little and see what that does
