What do you guys think is a better route...a turbo only pushing like 5 or 6 psi on a stock engine or changing all the internals:race cams, rods, pistons, etc.?

Well of course we all think the whole internal change is better....why wouldnt it be? The real question is about that cash though and how much you got to hand out....what numbers are we talking?
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
If I were you, I would do internals first, and then you would always be set up(or at least a whole lot closer) to being able to run a turbo on higher psi
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
If your wanting 220hp definatly leave the internals. They will love 8psi with the right tune for a long time. Even with after market internals you can have a unfortunate problome. if you blow stock engine witch could happen both ways buy used engine with low miles $1300 sell blown one for a couple hundred your back up and running. My 05 750 stock internals on 8psi putting down 205hp with 4000 shit bagging miles and not letting go.

If you cannot afford a $250 custom map you CAN'T afford 220 hp on an 1000. You might as well throw a stick of dynamite into the gas tank trying to get an extra 60-70HP out of the motor in a cheap manner.
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
internals imo. know several guys with well over 20k on the clock. however, it does depend on who builds it and the maintenance is crazy. i oil change every 1000 miles with synthetic oil, you have to get the valves checked more often. there is also more to it than that so be careful.
but like some of the guys said, if you cant afford a custom map, then trust me you cant afford a built motor or turbo
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
How important is changing the head gasket/ lowering the compression. Ive just picked up a stage 1 kit. It didnt come with a head gasket but the guy who had it said he blew out his rings or somethin running this kit. I dont mind goin full rebuild but Id prefer to try the kit out first, Would you be risking serious engine damage by leaving the stock head gasket for a while. It doesnt look like the system was running a boost controller which could have helped his problem.
Another thing, the kit instructions give really vague base settings for a power commander map to run with the system. If I lower the compression is it going to put these figures way out?
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
A lot depends on your system, internal wastegate can creep making your boost higher than you may have planned on..
boost controller can only raise boost levels, if the last guy hurt the motor on base boost levels for sure you will do the same unless you figure out why.
Aussie fuel is crap..lots of guys i know have hurt std comp busa,s at 6psi and your comp ratio is higher than a busa..thicker headgasket would be good insurance. hurt your cyls and its going to cost lots..
call me 0428 655 445 and you can tell me in more detail whats in your kit and i can advise on settings and probably be able to put together a functional starter map for the PC.
Other guy thats good with this stuff is in Syd is Ben at Extreme creations.
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
got my setup pretty much sorted now. Im gonna put in ape head studs 0.060" head gasket. gonna get the stock pistons ceramic coated with teflon skirting (will find out if their in good enough nick to use the ones ive got in there now). Gonna put in an aftermarket cam chain tensioner and am thinking about a high pressure oil gear. As for the tuning system. Ive got a dl32 data logger and am gonna be runnin the power commander system with the hub and the boost input sensor so I can adjust boost and not have to change the base map. Havent decided on how important the ignition module is yet but I can input that later anyway. Anyway Ill fill yas in on how it goes. Thanks for the heads up maj ahhh and if anyones got some s2000 injectors hook me up.
Re: Turbo moderate settings or Full internal change
the first question you have to ask yourself is what is your Goal with the bike.
this will determine the type of build you need.
if you want to drag race i recommend build +stage2
if you want something fun on the streets or road race then stock internal and stage1 as pointed out earlier any more then 7psi its not ride able on the streets/canyons/track
