the cams I used- did hurt the low end some. Below 5,000rpms. Anything above 5,000 had more power. Hit 7,000 and thing would just go!
I used an 02 gsxr 1000 intake cam. That cam is only about .008 more lift then the stock 750 intake cam and I went big on the exhaust cam. If you go with a bigger intake cam it wont hurt the low end at all and you will gain everywhere. At the time- the only bigger intake cam would have been a web cam witch cost money. Now you have more cams to chose from with the 05-06 gsxr 1000 having a bigger intake cam.
there is mostly always some tried off with putting new cams in a motor. where it be low end power or high end power. You can get both, but your not going to get big HP numbers that way. Depends on what you do with the bike I guess.
A road race bike you want a big intake cam and a mild exhaust cam for good mid range power.
A drag bike you want more top end power so you want a mild intake cam and a big exhaust cam. Moves the torque higher in the rpms witch makes more HP.
My set up was for drag racing and cost. The bike with a good ride would go high 9s in the 1/4 @ 142 mph with a 190pound rider. with a pro rider it could go low to mid 9s for sure.

PS. the 750s that I did the swap in, where never my bikes. I have always owned a 1000. so I cant tell you how the bike felt before the swap. All I know is that it was like riding a 1000 in the upper rpms. I was really impressed riding it after the swap. And the guy that drag raced it beat up on alot of Busas down at the track. He was riding 9.7s and motor with it stretched and he is not a pro by any means.
the owners did say it lost alittle lowend below 5,000 rpms but it wasn't that bad.
After leting another 750 owner here in town ride the bike, he went right out and bought a set of cams to have me put them in his bike. He was impressed also
