First Service?

Ok my bike is due for its first service and i was wondering if it needed to be done by the dealer for warranty issues?
I rather not have to do it at the dealer, cause i know the price difference is going to be huge. I rather do it myself or at a local shop..

TIA!

I think this was discussed in a few other threads.

Re: First Service?

You can do to yourself but you will need to keep receipts and a log of what you did.

If you want to have the same feeling as the dealer doing your first service just do it yourself and when you are done have a friend come over and kick you in the nut's and take $200 out of your wallet while you are recovering on the ground.

Re: First Service?

A basic dealerships "first maintenance" is a simple oil change, retorquing of bolts(mine were fine), and to re-oil the chain.

So these are needed for warranty issues???
If that is the case i rather just go to the dealer. Or maybe an independent dealer if its better.
Will their receipt also be good enough?

Re: First Service?

It's not needed for warranty issues. Dealers can't require you to buy any specific parts/etc

Then what would be the point of even creating a community like this, that is basically based off of people asking or answering questions that they could get on their own...
Thanks!

Well, this question has been asked and answered on tons of forums - here's a good read:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson-Moss_Warranty_Act

The manual specifically states you can do your own service (which is in compliance with federal law). The forum is for questions that aren't quite as routine - such as help on fixing a mechanical/electrical issue, or maybe someone is interested in everyones opinion or experience with a particular aftermarket part.

Either way, no big deal - just hollar at the search if you think you have a question that other people have probably had in the past (like say, exhaust, sprockets, etc). I think the community benefits from having fewer, more robust threads - quality over quantity.

Yes we have some very bad dealers. The local forums are full of horror stories as well as I have a few.

As with most things it is not all or none as we do have one good Suzuki dealer.

That was one of my fears. I bought my bike from crazy freddys and i rather not do my servie there as i KNOW they over charge compared to a local shop around where i live.
