Sourcing an 1100 or B12 motor

Question aimed at Lee (or any other UK member) really

While I'm jobless I figure I should start collecting bits for my upcoming 7/11 project. It won't be a 'fighter, but I figured you guys would know good, cheap parts sources

The plan is to use a 750L and bung a mildly tuned 1100 motor in there (about 150bhp) along with upgraded suspension and brakes, lightweight wheels etc. but keep it looking stock as a rock.

I had planned to find a cheapish K or L 1100 motor and freshen it up, but can't seem to find any (tried a few on-line breakers, eBay and Loot). If I can find one, what sort of price am I looking at?

Should I forget using an 11 and just find a B12 motor? The only one I can find is £1200 Are they available cheaply?

TIA

They turn up all over the place really mate - you just gotta keep your eye out for one.
I picked up a complete B12 motor ( minus the crank cases ) on ebay for just £200 with only 8K miles ! , just keep looking mate , in the MCN , autojumbles , the smalls in the back of Streetfighters Magazine is another worthy source .ebay has turned up a few interesting motors in the past - forget online breakers - they're usually crap . Try partsearch / partfinder or all the breakers in the back of the MCN

If i had the choice i'd rather buy a B12 engine as a base unit - less miles , less stress , and much much younger than a gixxer motor - but it depends on price .

You should expect to pay no more than £800 for a fairly new / low mileage B12 motor from a breakers ( west coast salvage is usually a good source ) , privately anywhere between £300 to £600 is the going rate for a B12 motor , GSXR motor's usually go for around £400 - £450 . i wouldn't consider the 1052 motor unless it was cheap ( eg - less than £300)

Another good bargain buy is the 1127 GSXF motor - they are dirt cheap if you can search one out , and usually they are in good condition and ripe for tuning .

I'll keep my eye's out for ya if you like

If I were you I'd go for a complete bike if you can afford it, you can pick up 1127's for 1200-1500 these days.

Then sell off everything you dont want/need at the end of the project, then you will have all the hard to find bits that you might need during the build saving money in the long run. Then you can play and build perhaps..........

Hey I have managed to get a new Dynojet kit from ebay, unopened for £60 this week and they are £160 in M&P these days, and last winter I played for days on ebay and transformed mine for almost bugger all money which was great as I'm always skint !!!

Have a nice winter....

Re: Sourcing an 1100 or B12 motor

Cheers for the replies, guys. I was hoping for something around the £300 - £400 mark, so a complete bike is out as I don't have the spare cash right now, I was going to sort the motor then find a mint 750L ripe for the transplant once I'd got another job

If any of you come across a suitable motor, let me know, in the meantime it's back to scouring the small ads

Good luck 'Rev' ........... hey I've just been out for a blast on mine tonight and those second gear wheelies are great fun ..................Woooooooooooooooohahahahahahahah aha

I've just thrown some AP pads in the front and they are at least a million times beteer than the EBC crap I had previously , I just need to find a pair of discs from somewhere for a reasonable price now.................there is a slight warp in the left one I think, doh.
