2nd gear shift miss

Hey, I have a 2001 GSXR 750, and many times if I am shifting hard from 1st to second, the bike will shift into 2nd and then when I whack the throttle it will pop out into neutral... At first I thought it was me, but I read this thing on the factoryPro website
( http://www.factorypro.com/Prod_Pages/prods63.html ) about the "detent star" and now i am wondering if this thing actually works... If any of you have had this problem or use or know anything about this product...let me know!!! I really appeciate the input...

Thanks!!

Re: 2nd gear shift miss

I too had a few mis-shifts around 1st and 2nd. I had quite a few between 5th and 6th as well. I had a shop split my cases and charge me $700 and found nothing wrong.

I called Factory, and they said their detent star should help so I ordered it. After it was installed, I have not had any mis-shifts between 1st and 2nd. Although I still have a problem between 5th and 6th.

The Factory detent star made the shift feel more positive (it is noticable), neutral takes a little finesse to find, but it's not a problem.

My bike does not seem to misshift between 5th and 6th as long as I'm over 70mph when shifting. Anyone have any idea's about this??

The detent star cost me $130, and I spent $100 having it installed. I think it helped and would recommend it.

Later,
Raj

Re: 2nd gear shift miss

Thanks!... do you know how difficult it would be to install by yourself? basically where is it located..and what does it entail to get to it?

not sure about your 5th - 6th shift miss...might be the 5th gear shift fork gone bad...but you would have thought that the guys who took your bike apart would have seen that..

thanks for the input..
