Well after getting my CCT in the bike seems to run a little different. A buddy gave me his old D&D pipe to see if i like it.
So the bike doesnt want to idle when warm, the RPMS just drift lower and lower untill it stalls. Then if i try to adjust the idle....the RPMS with idle normal....but when i rev it....with float for like 5 seconds then fall back down. This sounds lean to me!?!?!
Also i noticed the old owner put a K&N filter on it.
So i pulled the intake boots and didnt see any cracks...i cleaned them up and applied a think layer or RTV to the bottom just incase they wernt sealing. Still doing the same thing....
Does this sounds like a vacuume leak?? or a lean carb contition?
Also i put my hand over each carb while it was idling...and one seem like it want sucking as hard as the rest were on my hand. I hope its not a cracked piston or a bad rings.
Ok good...every header on the head pipe is around the same temp. Now...what jet kit would you guys recommend for this setup?
I like factory pros kits, just stage one, but you might want to replace the emulsion tubes while you're in there, they wear badly. Get the titanium needle set if they still offer it.
That's the one I'd use, easy install and easy to tune. Make sure you reset your floats (they will be off) and bench sync your carbs before reinstalling (Carb sticky)
Just for a test....I took a sock and jammed it in the air filter and the bike runs perfect. Took the sock back out and its back to bogging and running like shit. Put it back in, and perfect.
Do i need a stock air filter, or is this still a sign of needing jetting?
The new pipe breaths better, to compensate you need to increase the ammount of fuel you're able to take in. The sock limited the ammount of air therby making it richer. A stock air filter only runs a little poorer than a K&N, I would suggest you need to shim your needles with one washer each and turn your air/fuel screw out a turn. I'd still go with a jet kit, you're just hearing it at idle now, when you really wind it up you'll notice a big ifference and a lean bike can damage the heads with too much heat.
