Here is kinda how it went, I was looking at picking up a Tom Tom GPS off eBay, but I was 2nd at the end of the bidding. So the usual, I get the e-mail from the guy saying that if I want one, he has more and will sell it to me. I was leary, but he said I would receive the invoice through eBay, so, I say ok, send me the invoice, but the guy wants it paid through Western Union. How do I know if the invoice that came is the real thing, you get my idea. Here is sort of what the e-mail looks like, is this real or what, how can I check??

western union is a dead giveaway. There is a second chance offer that can be made available through ebay and you can view it on your ebay summary not in an email

Yea, I am looking at the location that some of the images are hosted for the Logos etc in the GMail e-mail, and they are a dead giveaway as well.

Tell him to put up a new auction for you with a buy it now at the price you agreed and you will pay through paypal.

FAKE!!... I have over 800+ Ebay transaction and have been user name hacked more than once and know all to well of the fraud market on Ebay. Goto Ebay safe harbor and report the email.. They also have info on con second chance offers in the safe harbor area, which is one of the most common rip-off's.

Yea, i went and looked, and the guy that he was pretending to be didn't have any TomToms listed, you would think if th eguy has lots, then he would be selling them, right?

that is what is supose to happen. if the seller wants to sell a extra one, or the high bidder does not follow through, the seller sends a second chance offer. the second chance offer is a 24 hour auction with a buy it now, with the price you bid on the item.

I never accept any messages that hit my inbox from paypal, ebay, or any financial institution.

Only message centres located internal to their web applications are the safest measure... if they haven't been hacked
