Yamaha R6 vs Suzuki GSXR 600

Hello everyone, I have been trying to decide which bike to get, the Yamaha R6 or the Gixxer 600...Right now I'm riding a Kawasaki Ninja 250R, but after about two months of riding, I really want something bigger and faster. The R6 was my first choice, but after seeing the Gixxer 600, I'm having second thoughts. The R6 is a bit more expensive and comes with a bit more hp, but the Gixxer is still up there w/ the R6. I'm planning to spend around 5500-6000 on a good USED bike...anyone have experience with both bikes? What do you think? Thanks.

I've raced both. The R6 feels smaller and lighter, as it is narrower and steers a little quicker. The downside of that is that it may seem twitchy at times. On the other hand, the GSX-R feels bigger and a little bit heavier, as it is a wider bike and steers a little more heavily. The plus is it feels more stable, but the downside is it takes a little more effort to steer. Stock vs stock, the 01-03 GSX-R600 puts out a little more HP than the 99-02 R6, but really enough to make a real difference. The GSX-R is a little easier to work on in my opinion, and it also has FI where as the pre-03 R6s are carbureted. FI is much easier to tweak and tune than carbs. The GSX-R's stock suspension is a little better than the pre-03 R6's, but being a new rider it probably won't make much difference to you either way, and aftermarket stuff is widely available for both bikes. Replacement parts are by far a lot cheaper for the R6 than the GSX-R. I can't really tell you which one is better, because I ride both and like them both for different things. You'll have to decide what features and qualities you want from a motorcycle, and pick the one that suits you best.
