2002 GSX-R 600 (Fuel Injection??)

I just bought a 2002 GSX-R 600 on Tuesday. However, I am a little confused... According to all information that I read prior to purchasing the bike, the 02 is fuel injected. But, why is there a choke on the bike?

Thanks,

It's not a choke for a carburetor but a high rev idle switch for warming up the bike overall.

Like he said, it is a fast idle lever. It turns p the idle to warm up the bike. The choke emblem it has on it (I think there is one on our gix's) is just a thowback so it is familiar to old schoolers. It serves the same purpose just works differently

I am a complete newb and am going to learn to ride soon so excuse me for a question like this but I would rather ask and find out the answer to my question rather than acting like I know the answer when I really dont. So basically what is it... you pull that lever towards you after you first start up the bike while the bike is idling and warming up or do you pull the lever towards you before even starting up the bike at all and then put it back to the oroginal position once the bike has warmed up? Thanx for your help and sorry once again about the newb question.

no need to be sorry - this is the newbie forum after all.

you can try starting the bike up without the fast idle ('choke') on at all. if it starts, you can use the fast idle to help hold revs up a bit to warm the bike up more quickly. if the bike won't start with no fast idle, crack it open a bit and try again. all it does is open up the throttle butterflies, the same way that the throttle does. you could crack open the throttle slightly and it would do the same thing that the fast idle does.
