Exclamation GSXR spare key for $3.25

I almost slapped the crap out of the local Suzuki parts guy when he told me the key blank for my bike (2006 GSXR 750) was over $20 and then would have to be cut by a locksmith. I did an about face while laughing and said "right"!

I went to the local locksmith and showed him the key and he said here try this one. We figured out the shaft was long enough ( I know I thought of it to "that's what she said") so he cut it back and I tried it again and it was a GO!

So there is no reason for someone to personally finance Suzuki's complete R&D dept. by purchasing a stock key blank. Now you can make yourself 6 for the price of 1.

Re: GSXR spare key for $3.25

I did the same thing. I got 3 extra keys made for $5 at my local locksmiths. I like to have extra, just in case I lose mine or something. Plus, I gave spares to my friend and brother in case they need it for something.

My buddy sells keys and I can get the correct keys. If anyone wants spares let me know. I think he can get ones with rubbers on them, I can check.

Re: GSXR spare key for $3.25

A few points:

1) The x241 Suz18 keys that I had cut for my '97 bike didn't have to be shaved down up top.

2) If that's a pic of your key, anyone can copy it (which may or may not be a big deal)

3) If you have AAA, they will pay $100 to cut keys.

at least it isnt like a newer SAAB..if you lose your last key you have to buy the key and chip (149.00) plus the Twice security computer because it cant be reflashed (over 1000 bucks!)

Since K5 all other than US models have immobiliser. So you can't just cut a new key for them.

BTW, does anybody know if you can teach new keys to the ECM? How does the procedure go?
