Lastnight I was cruising home in my car at about 9 pm or so. I am sitting at a stop light and a green Kawi blows by followed Lancer Evo. The guy on the bike was flying and the Lancer barely cleared the light as it turned red. I start to rev up my car and let the clutch out and look left and right (I drive and little car and always look!) and here comes two more bikes. My light had been green for quite some time!!! They were over 100mph EASY and no gear.
If one of them would have hit my passenger door at that speed I am sure the bike would have ended up in my lap and hurt me and probaly killed him.
It pissed me off so bad:mad. I felt really sorry for them at the same time. Some how 3 or 4 intersections later the guy on the Kawi showed up next to me at a stop light. He was wearing short and tennis shoes and an Alpine Stars t-shirt. I yelled out the window at him and called him a poser wearing the A-stars T and no helmet.
Thanks for letting me rant guys. Thanks for GDC for scaring me into wearing gear and being a safe rider who wants to live to ride another day.

I keep seeing more an more squids in DFW and not just the sportbike community either! Other day I saw some dude on a big ass HD with no shirt, no helmet, and shorts and tennis shows Asphalt does not feel good in 90* weather, little piece of me wanted to see him take a little tumble in a way, you know, to teach his ass a hard lesson.
dude i dont know what dream world your living in but there are NO hd riders around here that wear helmets not a damn one. the only thing they wear is there boots, which wont do them a damn bit of good.
all though in my area there are a good amount of sportbikers that do wear gear, only a select few that wear no gear at all (5 that i've seen)

I second the squid population in DFW is on the rise. I saw some dude riding a harley with about a 8-10 year old girl on the back. she was wearing a little sundress and flipflops with daddy's brain bucket helmet. this was on the freeway.
The fact they the guys I saw last night were not wearing gear did not bother me so much because I see it all the time.
I was mad about them blowing through intersetions over 100mph with no regard for anything. I just wanted to get in there heads and see what they were thinking. Did the guy at the back have second thoughts after that???
I have done things and I am sure others have too where you were over excited and did something in traffic and thought whoa...that was really stupid or dangerous. Lastnight was just too extreme for me though. It was a wake up call.
well racing through intersections is just plain dumb period, wanna race find a stretch of empty highway or some back road, or actually take it to the track!!! IMHO people are getting dumber and dumber and it scares me
You had the perfect opportunity to thin out the squid population and you didn't take advantage of it?
J/K
The acting like a total dumbass thing is nothing new for me to see. Maybe not at that extreme, though.
And I actually get more surprised when I see someone who IS wearing gear. Even seeing a helmet on someone completely catches me off guard and makes me nearly shit my pants! I really don't know what I would do if I saw someone around here who was wearing full gear. I'd probably be in shock, speechless, motionless for several hours and need to be taken to the hospital.

I live in the North East and there are Squids everywhere. When I think of squids i think of not just stupid sport bike riders but hardley davidson riders too. If they decide to not wear gear/helmet etc. and they die......OH WELL! Just don't involve me in the accident. I wear full leather and helmet every time i ride.
If they were going 100mph and you pulled out with a green light and a bike hit the side of your car, the you would probably have been killed too. That bike would end up halfway through your car.

No. You wanna pull out just far enough to clip his leg!
I wear my two piece alpinestars leathers, shoei helmet, A* gp tech gloves, Sidi corsica boots.
I rode through a Taco Bell at over 150 mph and made it out the other side - not a scratch!
See what happens when you don't wear your gear and hit a Taco Bell at houstonsportbikenetwork.netfirms.com
Under the Discussion forum, 'Saw a lucky squid'
Viewer beware they're graphic - but only two would load for me.
You know I think a lot of the sportbike guys that do wear a helmet or jacket arnt even doing it for safety. I think a lot of them do it for the racer image. Not me......I like my skin and my head.

yea I wear my gear cause I've been down before and it saved my hide, plus I look damn cool in it But alot of squids think im nuts for wearing my gear. Jacket,Gloves,Helmet & Doc s.....no leather pants yet, just jeans.
Guys like this are everywhere. If they did this shit and only endangered their own lives, I wouldn't care. But more often than not, squids are doing their thing in manners that risk the lives of innocent people. The other day this guy on a 1000RR was hauling ass in a 25mph zone.
