sooooo I bought a seat to shave down cause I'm short. Thought it would help, but it didn't. When Wearing my Sidis I can only get one foot down and or two of my very tip toes. In boots or tennis shoes i can get the balls of my toes on the ground
I shaved my seat and guess what I still have the same issue. The problem: Basically the seat is too wide so shaving didn't do anything. I know, I know....SUCKS for me
Just make sure you lower the front the same amount as the back and you'll be fine. I think a 1/2" to a 1" is the max you can lower without running into clearance issues, but thats a lot when you sit on the bike.
Unless you're carring a passenger, you're just fine with the tripod thing. I have no problem getting my feet on the ground, but I usually never take my right foot off the peg. But if it's a real issue for you, there are adjustable rear links. They're easier to install and you can lower it just enough, then match the fork. Like slack said, don't lower more than 1" if you really like to ride it.
I can only touch with the tips of my toes too. Most of the time, like TheGeek said, I keep my right foot on the pegs. I raced motocross for years and could never touch the ground on those bikes...I guess I don't notice if I cannot touch the ground very well?
how tall are you bro? i think my K7 600 sits pretty damn low. im only 5'11" and i have both feet flat on the ground with my KNEES BENT.
not talking shit, but sometimes when im at lights, i pretend like im short. i do it just to see what the shorter guys always complain about, but its also good training on balance in case the worst happens. i try keeping one foot or the other on a peg and balance fully on the toes of my other foot. although it is a bit difficult, its really not too hard as long as u maintain concentration. i cheated once when a big gust of wind threw me off balance and i had to put both feet down. the shorter guys/gals dont have the luxury of doing that.

Get the lowering kit. Drop it another inch. You should be fine. My friend is only 4'11" and she is able to put her feet down almost flat after lowering it/shaving her seat.

Damn your friend must have longass legs.....
I do know how shorter guys feel because whenever I'm on a slight uphill I have to keep my right foot on the peg so I can apply the rear brake to keep it from rolling back. I mean I sit straight up at a light like that but if I were to hold onto the handle bars keeping 1 foot on the peg is not hard to do at all. Good thing for me is I can flat foot and have my knees bent and I think that's a really big advantage because us taller dudes have more leverage.
I think you should just do the tripod thing Don, since you do more than just cruising around now you wouldn't want to do anything that sacrifices handling.

Im short too. And i cant flat foot it. I can get the balls of both feet on the ground and its not a problem. So what if you cant flat foot it. Backing the bike up is a bitch at times though. Especially when its on an uphill grade.

Backing the bike up on an uphill is hard regardless of whether you can flat foot or not. As I've said many times in other threads regarding this issue.... Just get off the bike and push/pull it backwards.
I have a better idea.... how about just lay the bike down whenever you come to a stop...and pick it back up when you want to go.
Thats what i've been doing will. LOL! Thats what made me decide to do the seat shaving mod! I would never lower my bike cause I definitly don't want lose handling. I've been doingthe tripod thing for a while, its just when the bikes gets a little to far over, or if my foot ever slips just a little...TIMMMMBBBBBERRR. I just don't have the leverage. A couple of times I just go ninja and jump off the bike just fast enought to catch her before she falls.
Anyway......Anybody want a shaved seat? I actually used a steak knife to shave it and used 100 grit sand paper to smooth it.
