Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
Its time to change out the chain, so im going to do the front and rear sprocket too... I have a 97 Gxsr 600 with 25g miles and I have no clue what Im looking for... I heard to go 2up in the front and 1 down in the rear how good is that... I like my top in but I like my tourqe too... So I just wanna lower my top end a little and get some more tourqe ... and some site with good prices would be great too...
Re: Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
If you want more torque you need to go the other way: down one in the front and up two in the back for example. With this setup you will loose a bit on the top end.
I don't know anything about your particular bike, but I had a 600 and that setup was pretty nice.
Re: Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
yep I am with slack on this one... If you want more top speed and longer gears you add teeth to the front and take away from the back... I have a 1997 gixxer 750 and I just did mine, it was 16 and 43 and now it is 15 and 46... the gears are much shorter but there is alot more torqe and I think that it makes my bike run better... thats just me... doing this will however throw your speedometer off... you can buy a $100 deal that will fix it but I dont care... It reads 12% to high.... I dont really mind that at all since i never used it anyways... well, hope that helps ya...
Re: Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
Hey man, I have a 97 600 as well And I have 14 45 on it now. Originally it had 16 45. There was definetly a noticable differance. The only thing I found was that with the stock chain beind a 525 I believe is that you are pretty limited to the number of sprockets that are available. If you go for the 520 chain conversion there are tones of sprockets available.
Re: Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
Never go down more than ONE tooth in the front! The rear is up to you.
I´d use 530 chain/sprockets for the street for longevity/durability!
Also use a STEEL rear sprocket. It´s alittle heavier than aluminum but will last alot longer!

Is that what stock is for the '97 750? I have the same bike, but I bought mine used and the sprocket has already been upgraded. I am trying to figure out what he changed from stock.

Re: Wanting to change the chain front and rear sprocket
if you plan on lowering your gears for more low end torque-definetly go with the heavier pitch chain-and going too small in the front will wear out the chain and your engine much faster-it's safer, but more $ to go bigger on the rear
