Attention All Cashiers !!!

Please DO NOT put the coins on top of the bills you just put in my hand as my change.

So you count out the change you owe me...then you put the bills and the receipt in my right hand (the hand that I held out)...then you put the coins on top of that. My left hand is holding my wallet and now I'm stuck with a right hand that I can't do anything with. Now I have to put down my wallet in my left hand and then dump the coins into my left hand from the top of the bills. Then I have to put the coins away. Now I have to pick my wallet again and put the bills away.

If you simply put the coins in the hand FIRST and the bills on top of the coins , you will save the customer several steps in putting thier change away and your checkout line will move much smoother.

So, you put the coins in my hand then the bills and receipt on top of that. Now I can still use my fingers while the coins are in my palm to put the bills away in the wallet which is in my left hand. Then I simply put the coins in my pocket.

Not to mention that the change should always be counted back UP to what type of bill the customer gave you...starting with the coins.

This really bugs the shit out of me. Rant over. Thanks

Actually, I prefer it that way. I just concave the paper money into a little chute that I use to funnel the coinage into my pocket with.
Then the paper gets filed in the wallet.

Re: Attention All Cashiers !!!

haha, i work as a cashier, and honestly just be glad you get your money in your hand where it belongs, and not thrown at you. every day i get people who are ready to pay and just throw the cash on the counter so when i do the same with their change they get pissed. so next time you in a store, and the cashier hands out his/her hand when its time for you to pay. put it in thier hand, because your change might end up on the floor. remember this. the person whos standing behind the counter gets paid to be there, they can care less how long it takes you to get in and out of the store. when they are on the clock, your time is more valuable than theirs. not saying anything directly to anybody. just next time your in line take these things into consideration and get off your goddamn cell phone. if you were paying attention to start with you would know what you did with your wallet/purse or credit cards. Before this job i never thought about how i gave my money to cashiers. Thank god this is my last week!

I totally agree. I would never throw my money down on the counter then expect the cashier to be repectful to me. I always make sure to not be on the phone during the transaction...or at least I will say hold on and give the cashier my full attention while I speak to them.

Being a cashier isn't the greatest job...but we have all had or have a job like that. No matter what it is, it can't be that bad to try to do it correctly and maybe take a little pride in what you do. There isnt much you can do as a cashier to do the job incorrectly, but this is one of them. Count the change back starting with coins first and place it in the palm under the bills.

Re: Attention All Cashiers !!!

I worked at a gas station, it was the sweetest job and the worst job at the same time. Sweet being that I sat on my ass 3/4 of the time and ate as much donuts as I could, shitty being dealing with idiots and the shitty pay. Shitty pay is expected as I did absolutely nothing most of the time.

An example of the idiots I had to deal with was this one old dude. I was just chilling out on the corner of the building when my coworker went to help this dude get some diesel. He eventually got pissed off and asked me to help him, so I did. I asked the old dude what the problem was, he said that the pump ripped him off. I asked him how, he said that his jerry cans were 10 litres and he put in 20 bucks but they were only half full each. I look on the cans, theyre actually 20 litres each, and they were both half full. Everythings good, but apparently not. I told him that the jerry cans held 20 litres each, and he had put in about 20 bucks (~20 litres), and thats why both of them were about halfway full. He said that there was a problem. I asked him what the problem was, and he proceeded to tell me that he used to be able to fill up both cans for 10 bucks. At this time my boss is yelling at me and telling me to send the dude inside, so I tell him "alright my boss wants to talk to you" and he proceeds to say "I DONT WANNA TALK TO ANYBODY I JUST WANT MY OIL GODDAMNIT". Then I snapped and yelled back, "WELL LISTEN, IVE TRIED TO FUCKING HELP YOU BUT YOU JUST DONT FUCKING GET IT, AND IF YOU DONT WANNA TALK TO MY BOSS THEN GO FUCK YOURSELF" and walked off.

It was actually quite fun (and relieving) to flip out at some customers.

Anyways to keep on the thread subject, I always gave them their change first, then handed them the bills.

Re: Attention All Cashiers !!!

i think they put the change on top so you can tip them with it. if at a grocery store, then you can put it in one of those donation cups.

Or like I said, slide it right into your pocket, or in Blip's case, his coinpurse because he's obviously changed his scrote into one. :P

Re: Attention All Cashiers !!!

I've always done it that way when I was a cashier at a gas station when I was a teenager. I learned how once I realized that if I put the change on top it usually ends up sliding off, and the customer expected me to pick it up again.
So I learned to hand them the change first so that the clumsy ass customer (like Blipstein) could get a good hold of it and get the fuck out of my store as quickly as possible.

Re: Attention All Cashiers !!!

Another solution would to be just use your debit card...
Or dig that change out of your pocket and use it to pay. That way you have even money and you don't have to dick with it.

Personally, cashiers don't make enough to give a fuck about you and your quircks.
If they had to change how they give change back for every fuck head who had a problem you would see more cashiers going all cashier on your ass.

Just take the money, move to the side and then deal with it.
Part of good customer service is being a good customer.

that reminds me, I had a friend who was working at Firestone tires durring their "Blowout sale" (when the fords were rolling over) this lady comes in and tells my friend that she needs her tires changed do to the recall. He politly replys ok, we'll put your name on the list and we'll give you a call in about two weeks. At that point is when the lady flipped, and was like "TWO WEEKS? I NEED THEM CHANGED NOW!" my friends reply was the only way your getting them done today is if you call everybody on this two page list and explain to them why your tires are more importen than theirs. then when you make your way to the top of this list ill change them, she asked my buddy "What are you going to do if me and my kids flip my SUV on the way to vegas and DIE??! the reply was just have your husband give us and call so we can take you off our list. she just got pissed and left
