Re: What rpm do you change gears at?

shift when warranted. if you are cruising around, you can shift at 5-6 and the bike is not going to accel hard, but it will not bog down either. if you are getting on the freeway, run up a few more thousand to keep the bike in more of the meat of its powerband. if on the track, redline or near redline. as you get to the higher gears, it is better to shift a bit sooner. maybe 1-2k below redline for 4-5 and 5-6. this will keep the bike off the overrev.

Re: What rpm do you change gears at?

have you tried rev-matching? that should be the optimum RPM to shift gears. while travelling in first gear at low rpms, accelerate while holding your foot (slight pressure) against the shift lever towards 2nd gear (up or down depending). without the use of the clutch, you should slip into the next gears at the optimum revs. for regular street riding, i don't use the clutch at all for upshifts.

You dont even have to use the clutch?! You just press up and switch?

I do the same thing. I usually do partial-clutch downshifts, though. I'm shifting at higher RPM's on my girl's 600 than I do on my own 750.

Normal cruising around town, 5-6k, moving at a brisk pace, 7-8k, hauling ass at 13k.
