Damn I don't even like talking about it!! It's just stupidity on my part!! I had adjusted the chain about 3 weeks ago and noticed that the aluminum sprocket was on it's last leg so I went to my friends shop and had him order me a new one. Anyway in the mean time I rode the bike cause he said it would be a week so I figured I could baby it till the new sprocket arrived. Well it slipped my mind so anyway I'm on my way home last Monday when the chain jumps the sprocket and take out the engine case around the shifter shaft..... I wasn't going more than 15 mph when it jumped. Aparently between the time I adjusted the chain and last monday it lost some teeth.... I had hoped that the damage was minimal but when I got to look at it this morning I found that the cases were completely trashed and could not be welded back..... lucky thing I guess is I have a spare set of cases so Monday I'll order the one set of crank bearings I'll need and hopefully be putting it all back together next weekend. I probably have a set of black bearings so I may be putting it back together through the week so I can install it Saturday.....
oh and the topper to the story is the shop never ordered the sprocket!!!!
Yep I fucked up....... screwed the pooch big time on this one! The wife was cool with it at first knowing I was already myself. I think today was the first time she let some of her frustration out on me about it which I didn't appreciate at all.
I knew I had an issue with a couple of oil leaks so now I get to go though and take care of that now. The good news is that upon inspecting the 907 it is doing excellent other than an excess of Yamabond shavings on the oil intake screen. The plug color is perfect as is the tops of the pistons.
For Purple it is getting a 530 chain / steel sprocket setup this go around..... for the miles I put on it there isn't a need for the 520 setup with aluminum sprockets.
Moral of the story for me is not to screw around with Murphy cause he always screws me every time!!!

well at least you have an extra set of cases. So which bike will be easier to repair or get on the road? Orange or Purple? (hint, hint)My old lady likes to add extra kicks too when I'm down, don't feel bad....
Good news Dan I got rid of my Bungies!
Bobbychet
Yeah my wife loves to kick me in the nuts when I'm down.....
I've already been running through the cost of Orange to get it on the road. In fact I stopped by Suzuki not 10 minutes prior to trashing the cases to get pricing on the stuff for Orange. Just for the engine bits It's $167 through Ron Ayers and $216 + tax to get it local. I've heard nightmares about getting stuff online though with delivery taking 2 months or longer. I may not be out but for the chain and sprockets on purple and if I have to get a pair of bearings I'm looking at an extra $9......
Wooooooo Hooooo on the bungieless Boobie bike too!
if you need help on some of the parts..i can call my local guys...normally takes 3 days to get in..and i can send it off to you...also...sorry to hear about the bad news...
Well I've ordered the crank bearings for both Orange and Purple today so I'll be a little closer to getting Orange done as well..... just need a Second gear for Orange and it'll be in business too. Well the engine will be that is!
wow man what spare parts dont u have!..... wish i could sit in on this rebuild..... things i dont knwo make me scared..... things i learn make me happy...... good luck.....
Man, that sucks. I had a chain that was totally shagged on my CBR. I finally got a new chain on it, and the guys at the shop pretty much told me I was the luckiest SOB on the planet not to have had the same thing happen. Looking back, I feel really stupid to have done it. I had NO IDEA that you could wipe out an engine at 15mph. I just kept telling myself 'well, I'm not caning it, so nothing will happen.'
There's a serious lesson here for anyone who needs to do ANY kind of maintenance on their bike. Don't screw around. Do it.
Dan, I hope this actually helps you get Orange on the road. It sucks that this happened to you. (Seems like it's always the good guys, never the pricks this stuff happens to.)

You must have missed my earlier post in the General Forum where I was called a Prick! But thanks, yeah it does get me a little closer to finishing Orange. I'm a tranny gear away from being able to assemble the engine and that is HUGE!!!!
Well engine reassembly could have gone smoother but oh well, sometimes we just have bad days.
Purples just about finished, I just have to finish the clutch assembly and oil pan install then it will be ready for another round of thrashing..... engine.JPG
Prick? Asshole? Ok, you're a jerk too LOL. Shit Dan, that really sucks. I don't know anyone, myself included who hasn't shot themselves in the foot at LEAST once. Hopefully all reassembles well.
I avoid the General forum like the plague.
As to exes, my first....ugh, my second, love her to bits, best friend/soulmate, there is a god!!
it's all back together now after me staying up till 5am...... but I found this morning when I went to ride it that there is an issue with the clutch.....
