Hey there, ive recently joined the Gixxer Forum mainly for advice but one of the first jobs i had on my list were replacing the Front Calipers (maybe rear too) for R1/R6 Calipers, ive herd they improve breaking slightly and tbh they look better too.
Basically need to know what i need
i have a GSXR 600 K7 IOM TT Edition, any advice would be greatful
Waste of time and money - the reason people think they are better is because they get fresh (and probably much needed) brake fluid and maybe new pads when they change. They aren't significantly different.
Same thing as people raving on about how Y brand street sport tyre is SOOOO much better than X brand street sport tyre - never mind that the X brand they had was worn to the cords and at half the specified pressure. Of course Y brand will feel much better, any new, properly inflated tyre would...

+1 i just so happened to check my tire pressures about a week ago (havent ridden in almost two due to weather and tear down and installation of new chain kit) but i was suprised to find that both my tires were anywhere from 8-3lbs from what they needed to be. and it had been since i changed my tires almost 2 months ago since i checked them
If you want to replace hardware (as opposed to wear parts like pads and fluid, which need to be replaced anyway) I would start with a good quality MC like a Brembo if you want to effect a real actual change/improvement.
R6 calipers won't provide necessarily better braking, but they will give a different feel at the lever (which you may like more or less depending on your personal preference). The GSXR calipers have larger pistons in them (34/32mm) than the R6 (30/27mm).
Fluid w/ bleed and pads. I believe the original lines would be beyond their lifespan by now (2 years? 3?) so that wouldn't hurt. Maybe caliper rebuild / seals if they have had a rough life / outdoor storage to wear the seals out by now.
Check my two how to stickies in the mods and how to forum... do THEM to your brakes, and thank me later. Teh calipers wont do much of anything for you.

On a purely technical aspect and assuming you would keep the stock mc. To get as much force applied to the pads as before, you would have to pull the brake lever harder. That's because the ratio between mc's piston and caliper's pistons becomes smaller.

ok how about 2011 gsxr 600 they got brembo cal. will they work on the 06/07 gsxr 600
will they fit? Sure
Will they be much if any of an improvement? VERY VERY little if any. So little that your average rider would never notice. The OEM brembos are BARELY brembos. Mostly just in name only lol
I noticed that all the replys are 600's. I'm a point and shoot person and love to go really deep into the corner braking. I use a 2005 GSXR 1000 for track days and it demands strong bracking and good feel. I think I paid $62. on ebay for a set of monoblock calipers from 04-06 R1. Spacers were $15. SS lines $89. The smaller pistons have a different feel and the price was right. Oh. I put new seals in the calipers. Can't remember how much but all in all the swap was cheap. My K6 GSXR street bike just has Brembo MC and SS line and it doesn't feel as good as the K5. It also doesn't necessarily stop more quickly but the feel builds confidence.
i have a set off a wreck 2011 got them for free. do you know what size spacers i need to install them on a 06 gsxr 600
