My boss was really cool this morning. I was talking about seeing my daughter and how I wish she had a laptop or something at home so I could talk to her more.... so he told me to grab one of our extra ones from work and give it to her. I was floored. Really stand-up guy.

Yeah, I'm stoked. I was going to NOT tell her about it until I see her, but while I have it here, I want to know if there's any software she wants on it... so I'm going to break the news to her tonight. We do our weekly video chat tonight.

She's not computer savvy, so it's a good idea for me to make it bulletproof and get anything she'll need. I have full MSDN subscription so I can download licensed software at any time.

Install remote control software so that you can help her fix shit while you're home

Or at least enable remote desktop and walk her through sending you an invitation to connect to her computer. It can be sent through msn messenger.

Yeah, I have a GoToMyPC account for work... lets me bypass firewalls generally so if she's using wireless on a router at home ( which is the case ), I'll be able to remote in no problem.

I'm going to set that up, along with Spybot: Seek and Destroy, that new SUPERAntiSpyware ( better than Malware AntiBytes ). Also, browser will be Firefox only with NoScript enabled ( I'll teach her how to use it ) and AdBlock Plus.

My plan is to teach her how to browse safely. That, and the whole "Don't click on files people send you, unless it's me".
