Well I'd certainly be getting a prepurchase inspection done, for peace of mind. The state of the chain and sprocket bolts looks fairly terrible.
And each to their own, but those mods on it seem like nothing to get frisky over. Seems like the steel lines are the only "useful" mod
Bloody nice price though, hopefully leave you with a bit of cash to get rid of the tinted screen and the farty can
Out of the 3 bikes I've had, 2 have been sight unseen purchases (RG150 and SRAD), and both of them were/are great. I'm not so scared of buying unseen, but only when I have got a mechanic of my choosing doing the prepurchase inspection.

For once I am with Sam on this one. If u had to ask you obviously have some reservations. Just sit idle for a few days then start the search over. Maybe something else will catch your fancy at a decent price. R1 with an unsure rider=no bueno IMO
My friend still has his 98 R1 he bought new. It has around 40k miles on it, he will never sell it because he loves it...Oh and good luck on the R1 forum.
For once I am with the great big mustachioed, bushy eyebrowed, burly man Sam on this one.
Mmmm, nnyeesss...mmmhmmm
On another note, Nick Sanders has hustled his R1 around the world countless times. 32 odd days to circumnavigate the globe was his record IIRC, pretty sure it still stands today. All on an R1...
I suppose thats a fairly good reliability test
Yeah but don't have any new pics, the guy said I could take the bike if I came with the £1500, which I did, but then he refused to let me take it and said he wanted the auction to run.
Not a happy camper at all, he also refused to let me either take the bike out(full cash in hand) or jump on the back whilst he rode it so alarm bells where ringing, gutted because she looks as good in person as she does in the pics.

I hope the high bidder backs out of the deal and then he calls you back. If he does you should tell him 1300 or no deal.
I had over 40k on my 98 r1 when we opened the engine to rebuild it. Looked mint. Had over 55k on it when I sold it and ran like a champ. If bikes are taken care of the mileage isn't really an issue. It's more important that regular maintenance was done. Before you actually pick it up you could let him know you want to do a compression check.

I like this idea.
Pissed me royally off because I would've just gone on the bike to see it but instead had my brother with his van drive me down to chuck her in the back because of his numerous assurances if I brought cash I could take her.

Not bad thinking there MM, in fairness the bike looked super clean and fired up first time and sounded fine.

I wouldn't give up on it... Especially because it seems like you really want this bike. When is the bidding over?

In 9 hours, I just got the bug for another big bike it looked clean and was at good money, shame the seller is a headache though. I'll still try for it.
