96 750 Airbox?

Hey all,

I've got a small problem. The previous owner of my gsxr here tried to mod the airbus and give it more intake. Well it never worked right after that and it seems like no.matter how hard I try I can get the carbs quite tuned right. It was only recently I realised the airbus had been cut open. I'm trying to fab a fix for it, but it'd really help if someone could tell me the size of the stock opening. Any help would be much appreciated.

Mitch

Re: 96 750 Airbox?

or you can try to jet if for it. you had better have a good hand on jetting, if you give it a try......block off the main air jets and start with main jets around 160-170 size. IF you are not up to it, find a stock one.

Put up a picture of how it was cut and I will try to judge whether it is salvageable.

Re: 96 750 Airbox?

I'll try to get some pics up as soon as my camera gets back from the shop. Right now I have the airbox taped back down to about the size as an older bike of mine, and its running better, I've also already made a plate to close the hole up nicely, I just don't know what the exact dimensions are on the stock hole to put into the plate. As much as I'd love to just replace the box, and have a nice stock one, I just spent all my spare funds replacing the CC and the CCT, but I work P/T at a fabrication shop, so fabricating parts is easy, and free.

I do not have the exact size off hand, but if I remember correct it is about a 2"x4" opening.

I will hope that someone with a stock box will be able to check it for you.

yeah, ever since I started watching my nephew, I'm finding that a lot of stuff is winding up in the shop. Thank the good Lord above he's yet to figure out how to get into the garage.

Re: 96 750 Airbox?

So two years later, and I'm still having the same issue, and really poor luck with it, I've order 3 separate ones from EBAY, 2 of them have been the wrong box, and 1 of them had the same hole in it as this one.

I've made a plate to go in the airbox to close the hold back down, and between it and some Permatex it's almost as good as new. The only things I'm still missing is the size of the opening. Don't suppose someone out there is willing to open up there with a 96 or 97 GSXR 750 would be willing to open up there box and see what that opening is for me?

Re: 96 750 Airbox?

Thank you so much for that. As promised here's an image. after measuring the current opening, it comes out closer to 6 x 2 3/4. So hopefully with the Airbox feeding the proper amount of Air once again, I'll be able to finally get the ol' girl running properly again.
