Re: Is there a what have you done to your bike today thread on here???
Changed the steering head bearings today, for the tapered ones.
Got my MOT due at the end of this month and knew I had to get these done...Ordered the tapered steering head bearings from Daz a few days ago, got them yesterday and put them in the freezer, in preparation for today.
This was the conditions I was working in...lol
Fairings off...
Front wheel off...
Forks out...
Top yoke off and cleaned up the inside, so i could see what I was doing...
Bottom yoke looks grimey...
Managed to knock the old races out...
Clened up the headstock and then had difficulty taking the collar off the bottom yoke....eventually came off when I showed it the angle grinder...lol...I was careful
Put the dust seal and bearings on the bottom yoke...quick clean.

To bad you aren't here Armi, you could come over to the garage, and it's a warm 71f.
I thought I would put a new gasket on the clutch cover on my motor for williamhbonney as there seems to be seepage. So I pulled the cover, cut the gasket off (I bond it to the cover not the motor), sanded all the paper residue off with the mouse sander, and threw the cover in the ultrasonic cleaner (can't do that with the motor can you).
Re: Is there a what have you done to your bike today thread on here???
It never leaked in stasis, just would get some oil on the frame and pipe after a day at redline in expert sessions.... I am not sure it would have leaked on the street, just not the way I want to send out a motor.
It's laying on its side curing right now, torqued down. That way no oil bath interferes.

Nice job!
Yesterday I spent two hours cleaning my clutch cover and didn't even came close to that! BTW, does it need to be cleaned like that?
When you say, you bond it to the cover, it means that you use liquid gasket on the cover instead on the motor casing?
Re: Is there a what have you done to your bike today thread on here???
Yes I use yamabond to seal the gasket to the cover so that the gasket comes off with the cover. It usually makes the gasket reusable and I would rather have clean the gasket off of a cover than a motor case halves if it needs replacing.
What you see took me maybe 20 minutes.
Re: Is there a what have you done to your bike today thread on here???
Thanks!
My stock gasket also came off glued to the cover...maybe in factory they do it like that?!
I thought the liquid gasket was meant to fill that tiny gap where the halves meet...if you do that way it's because it works and wont leak, I presume...
BTW, do I really need to remove all the traces of the old gasket or else it leaks?
Re: Is there a what have you done to your bike today thread on here???
Drained and replaced all of the brake fluid on the thou today; front and back (how does brake fluid get looking so milky anyway?)
Shit, nice tight pinch on the stoppers now...
Battery on charge, now to get that lump out of the way to work on the SRAD.
Shit's happening now!
Cheers, Ad

Have most of my winter project finished, 03 forks, calipers, R1 M/C (Brembo) which came with Pazzo shorty lever. Had forks resprung and valved for my weight along with new seals. Still have to run lines and bleed brakes. Next project is to hook up quickshifter!
