Re: new project

the metal in the oil on mine is not that bad its just a lil bit a few specks so im still leaning toward the lifters, i hope if not the 91 motor on my 86 is going in it, or im going to take the front end of the 91 and put it on the 86 either way i am going to ride this summer. if it is a rod it will be a very steep learning curve on these. The biggest cycle motor i have built was a honda cb 550.

the reason i was going to just get the kit is so i dont have to go order them for my other 750 when it needs them you guys know better to have the parts when stuff wears out. a little prier planing to limit down time for both bikes

Re: new project

First off, you don't have lifters in that motor. Secondly, is it just the photo or do your camshaft lobes look brown and scored? It looks to me like the lobes on your cam have the chrome wore off of them, and if so, you can bet the rockers (perhaps what you refer to as lifters) are wore out as well. How many miles are on the motor? Judging from the state of the rest of the bike, I'd say it suffered a lot of neglect in the hands of previous owners and you might have to replace the cams and all the rockers.

Re: new project

yeah those lobes look bad in the pictures and if that's what came out with the oil i would just start pulling the motor now cuz that doesn't look good at all.... Sorry to say you got some work to do.

Re: new project

hey long_ good eye. the guy i got this bike from needs to be slapped. well any way i am most likely going to take the hole thing down to suzuki and have them check it out. hope i can just get this motor going relatively easy and not have it cost me a arm and a leg. well wishful thinking lol. are there any aftermarket cams and rockers still available? link would be great been looking all day and have not found any. thanks

Re: new project

Yes I got it figured out. Unfortunately it was the #2 big end an the cams, rockers an valves on the #2 cylinder. I just scraped that motor an found a replacement from another 91. Sorry took so long to reply had a mess of the past cupple years. Crashed my 91 after replacing the motor an the misses was pissed an made me sell them both. Then she left. Should have kept my bikes.....thanks for all the help you guys offered
