As I'm always impressed with how well the swingarms look on most of the pictures everyone posts, I've gotta ask, are you painting them or powder coating them. My limited restoration will need swingarm done and my AHRMA project bike will need finished after the bracing is completed. Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I shot mine with baking soda and it came out nice. It just cleaned up the stock finish.

I plan to powder coat mine. I picked up an aftermarket arm from TRAC. (for my 92)
I haven't gotten it yet or I would post pics sorry.
If I had a lot of spare cash and a perfect finish I suppose anodizing would be an interesting alternative.

I sanded mine by hand and had it anodized clear. Came out very nice.

Hi,

I had mine polished...... 10 years on it still looks good!! ok - you have to give it a good polish now n then!!

If you paint or pwder coat you will find after a while tiny little stone chips "chipping" away at your pride n joy.
If you chrome (which is v v v v v hard wearing (if done properly) but will more then likely flake/bubble after a couple of years!!)

Mine are powder coated, and it has seen over 30,000 mi and NO stone chips in it. Done properly PC doesnt chip all that easy as some people think......

If you want durability, look no further than powdercoating. The high wear parts I have done (wheels, swingarm, engine parts, etc.) are 13 years old and look the same as the day I brought them home from the powdercoater, and not a stone chip. And inexpensive too. That said, make sure you find someone experienced and with a good reputation, otherwise it may not last.

Other coatings while not as durable may give you a look you may like better. Powder coating film thickness varies to some degree, so on some high gloss colors, the finish may give uneven sheen in places where the shape changes, if that makes sense. For example, anodizing will be more even and give consistent reflections

Powdercoat. It's durable and easy to clean. A good powdercoater can match a silver to match the stock look.
