So last winter I decided I wanted to take my 05 1000 to the next level and travel down a road that I have never been down before modding-wise: turbocharging. I said I would do a build thread but never bothered to,so that being said I am here with a build thread on my new winter proect..
Im doing a turbo build on my '00 Busa. So,first a little history on the bike:
My wife had bought me this Busa as a wedding present when we got home from our honeymoon back in 2000. We enjoyed riding together and after a few months I decided to put an Yosh RS3 pipe and Powercommander 2 on the bike. It made 160rwhp bone stock and 172rwhp a few hours later after doing the pipe, small airbox mod&dyno tune. I was very happy with the results&rode it happily for the next year.
Next round of mods was a 1397cc kit with Yosh drop-in cams. That woke the bike up and it made a healthy 186rwhp. Rode it like that until late summer when my buddy bought a brand new 04 ZX-10R and after adding a full Akra Evo,thin headgasket, degreed cams&tune(170rwhp)he spanked me down the dragstrip as well as doing roll-ons.
I was pissed as he kept rubbing it in my face(we go back&forth with trying to out-do one another and have been for the last 15yrs lol) but I kept quiet and dropped the bike off to Bob Carpenter before leaving for vacation so he could do his 1397 pistons, cams&headwork. I picked the bike up a week later ready to ride and it now made 219rwhp
So without saying anything to my buddy we went out for a ride and he challenged me knowing he would walk away from me. Well, needless to say he was shocked when I disappeared on him. The look on his face was priceless to say the least.
Rode the bike with the Carpenter set-up for another year and then I bought a new 05 1000 and had that built from the ground up before I even swung a leg over it,made 201rwhp. So with the new bike keeping me occupied on the street I decided to go another direction with the Busa.
The Busa went back to Carpenter and had a 1430cc kit installed along with oversize intake valves and bigger cams. Upgraded the fuel system to a Walbro external fuel pump&Aeromotive regulator. This was good for 240rwhp. I added an adjustable 0-6" swingarm,Penske drag shock&air shifter. Bike was a rocket down the dragstrip, ran in the 8s easily but with the big cams and added compression it was not able to be ridden on the street. Which was fine because I was going to the dragstrip 3x a week and riding on the weekends and ended up getting burnt out on bikes..I parked ALL the bikes from 2006 to 2009 and stopped riding all together.
Fast forward to 2009 when Anthony D convinced me to put the bikes back on the road...So I sold the 1430 Carpenter engine a few weeks ago, ordered a Stg.1 Velocity turbo kit and was about to build a stock Busa engine to handle the turbo but then after speaking with my buddy Mike Tona at SAE Outlaw Performance he had a fresh, fully built 03 engine with Carillo H beam rods,1/2" studs,JE turbo pistons,pro-cut trans, billet output&shift shafts,turbo-specific cams, built valve-train,MTC multi-stage lockup clutch. This engine had an NLR turbo that went 7.2@ 200mph so it can handle any amount of horsepower I can throw at it.
The kit consists of a Garrett GT28 turbo with an external wastegate. I plan on installing a Tial 50mm BOV soon. I also switched over to a 2007 ECU so that we can utilize ECU Editor for tuning after re-pinning a few connectors. I went with a billet fuel rail made by Mike and Im planning on running 62lb injectors which should be good for over 400rwhp. The plan is to go with secondary injectors&a Microtech controller and most likely water injection in the very near future.
One of the reasons I went turbo was that I really miss riding my Gen1 on the street and mint condition '00 Busas are getting more and more rare each day. But with the high compression 1430cc engine I couldnt do that and the thought of riding around with only 160rwhp wouldnt do
Now to the pictures
First up is when I had the 1430 engine,my daughter was 3yrs old and loves all of daddy's motorcycles.
The next pictures are of the bike after I went in a different direction then most would have gone and painted the frame, arm, and brackets in a black wrinkle finish. Its not for everyone but its different and I like it.
I will be updating this thread but thats about it for now...Enjoy
save yourself the money and just put one of those mufflers with that piece of metal jammed into them that make it sound like a turbo is spooling. All of hte ricers around here have them

You mean like Bubb Rub&Lil Sis? You have to remember this...
