Advice on brakes for an 86 GSXR

Hi everyone.

I am setting up an 86 GSXR for track use. I am looking for advice on brake setup. I received my bike with front master cylinder, callipers and rotors (no lines).

I havent as yet been able to ride one of these bikes so im looking for advice from the forum as to replace, modify or update?

Heres a photo of my ugly duck for your troubles.

I put billet brembo calipers along with a Brembo radial master and braided lines on EBC rotors. The brakes will get your attention, in a good way.

Re: Advice on brakes for an 86 GSXR

My recommendation would be use the brakes that you currently have. I raced my limited several years with the stock setup and never felt like brakes were the limiting factor. Focus more on the suspension to allow you to carry more corner speed with less braking. Unless you are building a monster motor you will only have around 100HP which is more in line with the HP of a nicely tuned Honda F2. Just my two cents as I'm building an AHRMA bike and will use the stock brakes this year.

One last recommendation is to swap out the 18 inch wheels for 17 inch wheels this will make a huge difference in how the bike handles.
