Oil leak?!

I was at a stoplight and noticed a drip underneath the motorcycle, slightly to the left side. Definitely oil. Pulled over, and when the bike was on the side stand, the drip was more like a thin stream, what looks like it's coming from under a screw from the part that's next to the stator, which has a hose of some kind connected to it (Water line?) When the bike isn't titled, it was a drip again. So I got home and took a video so maybe you guys could help me out. Is it a broken gasket or a crack somewhere?

Re: Oil leak?!

Wow, leaking pretty good!

As mentioned earlier, that is your water pump and pretty sure it is just the oil seal leaking.

The pump drive shaft has two seals, one on the water (outboard) side and one on the oil (inboard side). There is an air space with a drain hole between them. If you look behind and under the pump you will see the small (about 1/8") drain hole. If the oil is coming from that hole you just need a seal. If it coming out just inboard of that, it is probably the water pump housing o-ring. The seal is a more common source, the o-ring rarely is a problem.

Do a search for water pump seal and you will get lots of threads, etc.

Changing the seal is harder (but less expensive) then changing the whole pump. It depends how handy you are.

Just my .02, I had this (not so severe) leak. I replaced with a new OEM water pump but still had the slow leak. It ended up being the output driveshaft seal or something like that. Took me forever to get it figured out.

#5 is the oil seal.

#9 is the housing o-ring

(#4 is the water seal)

The output drive seal the OP is mentioning is the seal behind your front chain sprocket (right aft and below the water pump). You can eliminate any doubt of the source by finding the water pump drain hole, wipe everthing clean and then tilt the bike to make it leak. The way it is pouring out, it should be an easy confirmation.

Re: Oil leak?!

Thanks. From what I understand, the purpose of that drain hole is so that the oil doesn't mix with water? And since this is an oil leak, it is unlikely that it is part #8 or #3, correct? What are the tools that I need to take this apart? Any special ones? Speaking of taking it apart, is there a detailed guide somewhere/precautions (with regards to draining anything)?
