Re: running

Jet, what did you run? I took mine last month and ran my best in years. 11 min flat I believe, or right there. Haven't been that low since I ran 1030s in Tech School, when I wasn't doing the Sheppard Shuffle.

Re: running

i would like to add an update to my physical training.

i am currently in the NCO Academy and they have a rigorous fitness program in place. it involves a lot of core work and sprints. basically you run a lap as fast as you can and then you do an exercise. they call it the "human performance" program to make you a better fitness test taker. seeing i am like 6000 feet above sea level, the oxygen feels like it sucks right out of my body when i try to do cardio. i plan on doing more stair climber to help with this and go all out 100% in this fitness program.

today, we did a dry run through the program and its very good. we do a lot of burpies! personally, i like doing them because its a full body work out in its own. in the coming weeks, we will do the 10 minute burpie challenge. basically you go all out and the goal is to hit 100 burpies in 10 minutes. they said less than 10 percent of each graduating class pulls this off.

we are supposed to do a pre-fitness test soon and then do a post-fitness test before graduation to show how much we have improved. i would love to see some improvement and i want to add some of these exercises into my routine. the routine reminds me of some P90x, yoga, and some basic exercises rolled into 1.

i feel like i will learn a lot in this program and increase my fitness for running. i cant wait to see what i can do! i also decided to pick up a pre-work out formula. i am having a hard time getting into things due to altitude and eating in the dining halls regularly. i picked up MHP Fit X-Trainer for $25 at GNC. normally, i just stick with a protein powder but i want to give this stuff a try and see how it goes. i plan on picking up a protein tub soon to use for post recovery.

Re: running

want to add an update to this!

the cross-fit/yoga mix workout here at the academy is helping out tons. im focusing on speed and getting the sets done quick. we work out mon/wed/fri and they mix things up but stick with the core exercises: push ups, butterfly sit ups, and squats. they also toss in burpies into the fun every now and then. i can see a major difference in my fitness level (especially at altitude) and looking forward to see how i turn out in 3 weeks.

i do have 1 strange issue that i cannot figure out. my hands and feet are sweating pretty bad while here. the humidity is 20% and its in the 50's/60's during the daytime. i dont know whats wrong. i never had this issue back in WA (50-70% humidity/lots of rain). i am a natural sweater but this is crazy! im not dripping sweat on my feet/hands but im sweaty all day and cant figure it out.

Re: running

What is P90X like? How did it work for you? I have injured my heal and it looks like it will be a few moths till I can go back to full on running. I know that P90X involves jumping and what not as well but just wanted to get a general idea.

I have both p90x and insanity. Haven't tried insanity yet but p90x is really good.. the key is not letting yourself get "too busy" to do it..

I use Insanity. It starts showing effects very quickly. It is definitely worth the money.

x1000 on both guys above. I've never really worked out. One day me and my girl decided to try Insanity (free 99). It kicked my ass. I stuck with it for about 40 days straight before I "got too busy." I imagine someone with a higher fitness level to begin with would fair even better. Here are the results I saw (it may be a lot to ask but, don't flame me for sharing )
Day 1

Day 15

Day 36

Push up day really killed me. Every time that disc came up and you do the six or seven varieties of push ups, I thought I was going to collapse.

P90x is pretty insane too. I'm trying George St Pierre's Rushfit training program. It looks intense and it combines some MMA stuff with the workouts

I think most of the new stuff coming out is all pretty intense interval training with the rests at a low level than jumping back up to intense which is why everyone is seeing the results they are. Where "conventional" workouts are more slower paced which would take longer to achieve the same effect

We just torrent downloaded it the entire series, calanders, spreadsheets the whole nine yards. Transferred it onto a jump drive and that was it.

I agree with you. Not to mention that for years, conventional workouts were designed focusing on isolating one muscle group at a time. Most of which looked over stabilizer muscles and core work. Over the last few years, people have been combining those conventional exercises more with various other movements, calisthenics, cardio, core work etc... which basically gives you more of a bang for your buck and gives u quicker more noticeable results

Re: running

well i completed another week of crossfit exercises and it was intense. we had a burpee challenge on monday. the record is 100 burpee's in 10 minutes. i managed to pull 60 in 10 minutes which is 10 above my targeted goal. on wednesday, we were murdered! we ran 1 lap, 50 lunges (25 per leg) and repeated it 5 times. so that was 250 lunges over 5 laps! man, i was hurting so bad. today, it was a little easier. we did descending sets 20-15-10 consisting of butterfly situps, squat thrusts, and burpee's and only went 3 rounds with 1 lap for each round.

when i get back to my home base, i am going to the army base and do crossfit exercises 2 times a week. cant wait to do it!

on our burpee challenge day, we had almost 10 people get over 100. one guy did 120 in 10 minutes! that's nuts!
