I want another 5 speed t-top firebird. I had one for a parts car for the camaro, but I should have fixed that one instead. It was a plain firebird with no side skirts and a flat hood. Had every option though. Red car and a grey interior.
I had an 87 trans am parts car. It was a 305 tpi 5 spd car. The guy said that it over heated and wanted 500 bucks for it. I went to see it and saw that it was wet up front where the radiator hose goes into the intake manifold on the neck. I tightened it, took it around the block and i bough it. This was about an hour 1/2 away. I drove away and about 30 mins later it over heated. I pulled over, removed the thermostat, added more water and drove home. On the way home some civic is trying to race my wife in her nissan. I got in front of that car and raced it. Beat him bad
The bottom of the intake/top of the block is about an inch and a half from the top of the trans.
It is VERY common on all of the old small blocks.
When you are ready to fix it let me know, I will tell you how to be sure it will NEVER leak again. It's a little tedious, but well worth it.
I know better than to buy a 93 6 speed car.
what's wrong with a 93 6spd? Should i bother fixing it or cut my losses, save up and buy some other camaro down the line? I want it to be a 6spd though.
Oh and technically its a 5spd since second is going out

No, its fine, I was just talking about what I said before about the "tunability" of the 93 cars.
So for the intake manifold fix. Is it just RTV or does it take a gasket?
No gasket, Grey colored peramtex.
You have to dimple the surfaces before you lay the RTV down. I use a center punch, automatic kind makes it easier, and make dimples in the flat surfaces of the intake and the block.
Then you put a very light skim coat of silicone on the intake and the block, give it about 10-15 minutes to develop a bit of a "skin" (this is a good time to drink beer) then lay down a bead of silicone on the block, about the size that it comes out of the tube. Lay the intake manifold in place, try to get it right into place, dont move it around too much. Let that sit for another 5 minutes (more beer) then torque it down.
I also suggest going about 1/4" up the head surface, then lay the inatke gaskets down, and put a small dab on the intake gasket where it sits on the silicone.

That site is going to get me in trouble. I wonder how easy it is to buy from them. If I find a nice Avalanche I might jump all over it. I found one that was flooded, the water only seemed to be just above the bottoms of the doors.

the Chevelle is actually in my old home town. going to send the info to my buddy, if anyone is seriously interested i might be able to get someone to go check it out.
I'm not seriously interested, but it looks like a nice car that needs a header panel and maybe a fender and hood if they got warped. Give it some new paint and back in business.
I love driving around in 4 inches of wet sloppy snow with my old POS blazer and driving right past stupids in their BMW and Mercedes SUVs that are stuck.
