What difference will it make if I raise 7mm to rear shock. putting ohlins shock.
I recently got Ohlins Shock absorber 46PRXLS (SU347) came off from 05 gsx-r750. Mine is 00 r750.
I think it will be great upgrade for my bike.
before I bought it, I knew OEM rear shock of 05 r750 is 7mm higher than mine (00 r750) from Interchangability thread.
and One guy said, raising 7mm in the rear will make bike handles better. So I decide to get Ohlins shock when It showed up with affordable price without not much of thinking.
If I put recently purchased Ohlins shock to my bike, It will raise 7mm higher on the rear. Ohlins shock has Length adjuster, but it can only make it higher(+6mm) not downward.

when I saw that length adjustable nut on the shock, I was expecting that I can lower it so it can be close to previous height, but no way.. solid 7MM higher.
Even though golden colored shock is in my hand, I want to make sure what I'm getting it before I put it and run the bike.
I heard people do raise rear for better setup.
My question is, raising 7mm is in the normal range? or too much?
one fortunate thing is, I asked to seller and he said, previous owner of Ohlins shock has pretty much same weight as I do.
and My another concern is the chain buffer("chain guide" in other term). Since making 7mm higher will cause edging the swing arm angle. hope chain won't grind off the chain buffer from it.

Of adjustment but you will likely need to adjust front height to avoid a twitchy front end did to lack of rake or trail or both

One query.
The 750 04/05 spec shock is 7.5mm longer than the 01-03 750 we agree.
But once fitted what does this equate to via the shock linkage ratio in actual rear wheel travel ?? I'd say if the ratio is 2.2 (a guess, don't know what it actually is, but one of my old cradle frame gsxr's was this, though i know the 01-05 ratios are the same) then the actual lift compared to standard is : extra length 7.5 * ratio 2.2 = 16.5mm actual ride height increase ????

I have extra 4mm that I can raise front forks. I think OEM spec is 4mm down on front fork. and hope that dialing up a couple of more click on ohlins steering damper would help twitchy front end.

You would be much better suited to learning to ride the bike like it is, than throwing random parts at your bike that you have no clue as to what they are going to do to the bike, nor do you have the ability to notice the difference between what you have, and what you changed to.

There are a few different size springs for Ohlins. The are all shorter than OEM though. The TTX I think is 6" by 1.25" or so, the triple is wider, like 1.5" maybe? And the OEM spring is longer.
Hell look at the preload adjuster itself, It could not lengthen enough to fit that oem spring. the hydraulic adjuster will hit the top way before the spring were that long. It is not preload. The spring is just a lot shorter, by design

160mm is probably the sping's length for that.
edit. default preload is 10mm
7mm shorter shock with 160mm spring and 14mm preload.

Now this is done i'd take the bike complete to a suspension place and have the suspension setup according to static/rider sag and riding style.
Since putting a newly rebuilt K4 750 shock into k2 750 i've noticed the front gets more of a twitch on powering off the B-road turns. That's ok though as it now steers laser fast and holds a tighter line which is what i want (i don't use steering damper).
Some places do the setup for free, my local place does that does alot of TT bikes.
